Comments: My Father, SFC Granville Hutchison was a Scout section leader in the 25th recon company, 25th Division in Korea from 1952 to 1953. I have numerous photos of him and with some he served with. I am interested in communicating with anyone he served with or sharing photos with veterans and their families. During part of his time there he was under the operational control of the 27th Wolfhounds CO. E-mail me if you are interested in sharing the photos or remember him.

Comments: I worked for him (Anthony Labrozzi) when I was a 2Lt at Ft Jackson, South Carolina in 1975-1978. He was a Colonel at the time. He retired in Columbia and started to work for a small arms range contractor. I did see him in 1980 when I was a Captain in Special Forces visiting Ft Jackson on business. I have not looked for him nor talked to anyone that has seen him since that time.

Small World.....I volunteered in 1978 to go to Korea and was lucky to be assigned to 1st Bn 9th Inf. As I was walking across a pedestrian bridge I noticed a 1st Sgt (don't remember his name) from one of the other companies in the Bn coming towards me. He had the 187th Reg Cmbt Team patch on his left shoulder. After he greeted me with a salute and the Bn motto I stopped him and asked him what unit patch that was on his left should. He stated that it was the 187th. I said I just left a place that my boss had that same patch on his left should.....Colonel Anthony Labrozzi. He was ecstatic. He was so happy when I told him that "Tony" was very much alive and kicking. I gave the 1st Sgt his (Tony's) military address and went about my business. He later told me he had in fact had contacted Col Labrozzi and promised to visit upon the completion of the his tour in Korea.

Small world. :-)

Comments: My father Vernon Watson (also known as "Tink" and "Tinker") is having a hard time proving his service record. He was with the 25th Infantry Division (Tropic Lightning), then with the 35th Infantry Regiment (Cacti). At one point he was the only medic on Hill 717. He says he remembers someone named Lt. Lackner, and a soldier with the last name of Evans.

The years were between 1950-1953 when my father served in the Korean War.

If you happen to know any of the men listed, even if they can not verify my father being at those places during that time, please contact me anyhow. I'm also doing geneological work and would like to hear your stories.

Thank you for your help.

I remember three of four of our M24 tanks parked at the rivers edge, facing the town of Chinju. The bridge was already distroyed so were were to cross the Nam river by foot. I was just to the rear of Capt Torman who was standing next to one of the tanks observing across the river.when it started to move hitting a land mine very near to Capt. Torman.I saw the blast and a lot of flame, then saw Torman on the ground burnt black and in a lot of pain. I then remember crossing the Nam river on foot with water chest deep. reached the North bank with others and saw a very old man with a toy wooden rifle with his hands up. No other action at this time.I also remember how helpless I felt while in the middle of that river. sept.27,1950 Capt.Charles Matthews took over the task force of our recon.c. alone with the 79th tank battalion. Near the small town of Komdu Northwest of Kuyre, we entered a school yard and found about a dozen American POW's locked in the school buildings, many were unable to walk and some had open wounds,I remember one of the guys had a bullit lodged in the roof of his mouth. I also remember a Lt.Robert Sawyer and sgt Reifer who was KIA IN late Nov. of 1950

Comments: My name is Mike Riggins, my dad is Robert Riggins(Bob), My dad and I have been talking about his experiences in the Korean War, He doesn't remember a whole lot on account of his age and health, but the other day we were talking and he mentioned the 25th Recon, so I thought I would go to this sight and see if I could find anyone here who might have served with him. Dad has lost all of his Korean mimentos that he had do to my grandparents garage burning down, all of his photos, medals, uniform, and everything else he had, I am trying to locate any of his old buddies he served with to try and get some copies of photos for a album that I am putting together for him for his birthday,May 12, this year. I have bought all of the medals that he had earned and mounted them in a shadow box frame, and have bought a correct era uniform and put all of the correct ribbons, jump wings,C.I.B. badge, and shoulder cords on it for him, and am in dire need of photos for the photo album. I know it will be a gift that he will cherish for the rest of his life, so if anyone on this site that might have served with him, I would appreciate hearing from you to see about obtaining some copies of photos you might have for sale or trade, I own an extensive collection of military collectibles, I buy and trade all the time with, that's how I got alot of stuff to replace the things that my dad has lost, So I would love to hear from anyone who may remember my dad who I am very proud of. Some other units he remembers being attached to are as follows: 8th Army, 9th corps, 2nd, 3rd, 7th, 40th, 45th divisions, 11th and 187th airborne RCT, 987thAFA Battery "C", Camp Carson Colorado, FT. Benning, Georgia and stateside at FT. Hood Texas, thats about all dad remembers so any one who can help me out to make a veterans 68th birthday one he wont forget please get in touch with me, at my e-mail address or my home address, or even call me collect with any info or other items you may have. THANK YOU very much for taking time to read my article. From a very proud veteran's son,

Thanks for your reply to my inquiry.

Yes, most of the men transferred to Korea in the 25th Mec. Cav. Rcn. Trp.
in July 1950. Many (perhaps most) of the pictures I have of buddies,
were in both the Recon and MP companies.

While I was with Recon, in 1947, 48, and 49, members of Recon and 25th
MP Company, shared the same billets (@7 story building in Osaka), and
both Companies share in Military Police duties - they were completely
intermixed.

Actual personnel assignments to the MP company was extremely small (less
than 50 as I recall).

In 1949, Recon was transferred to a very small military base in
Shinodayam, Japan (12 - 15 miles or so out of Osaka. Most of the old
Recon Co were transferred to the MP Company, and continued to serve as
MPs. I went with Recon. Most of my correspondence during the Korean war
was with old buddies in Recon. I do not recall what happened to the MP
company during the Korean war.

Cornelius J. Gearin, Jr., was with the 25th Recon Company, 25th Infantry
Division between October 51 and October 52.

He also served with the 6th Bn, 31st Infantry between Jan 1970 and
October 1970 in Vietnam.

I am particularly interested in discovering whether he was involved in
any hostile activity in Korea.

Thank you.
