Comments: Did the 24th Infantry Division have an aviation Compny, during the Korean War?
Trying to run down which unit(s) had "L" airplanes, i.e., L-4, L-5, L-17, and L-19.
I know the 40th ID had an aviation unit.
Any help will be appreciated.

Comments: My father served with the 24th Infantry Divison in Korea from 1951-1953. He was part of the 34th Infantry Regiment. He was in three battles tehre and I belive was involved in the one of the first ones in Korean and if I'm not mistaken he was moved to another regiment, the 19th I think it was. He is now passed away (Ocotober 31, 2005) and I am in serach of freinds that may have served with him while in Korea or thier families.
His name was Eloy Gallegos aka Loy. He was born and raised in Albequre New Mexico 2-20-31 and would have said he was either from there or possible Watts, California as he moved to California but I'm not sure if it was before or after his time in Korea.
Would love to hear from anyone from 24th Infantry Division, 34th Infantry Regiments, or the 19th and 21st Regiments or their surviving families.
Thanks and good luck to everyone on their seraches!

Comments: I'm looking for info about my deceased father who served with the 25/24th Infantry in the Korean War. I don't know very much about where he was or what he did because he didn't talk much about it. I believe he was an MP for some time. He was a very proud veteran and I'd like his grand kids to know about his service to our country. He never got to see his grand kids. Thanks.

Dawn Acker wrote on 2005-11-27 17:10:33.0
Comments: An odd story - I attended the estate sale of a former grade school teacher of mine (Richard Helke) in Wadsworth, OH. His family, like many do, were just "clearing house" and getting rid of everything. I sell items on Ebay for extra income, and was there to see what I might find. I was very upset to see they were throwing away - in the garbage - a WWII/Korean War Army uniform. I asked them if it was a mistake, and didn't they want to keep it or donate it somewhere? They said they didn't know anything about it, so it meant nothing to them, and told me "take it if you want it". Well, I just couldn't let it go in the trash with yesterdays pizza.
I'm not sure if this uniform belonged to the Mr. Helke I knew, or if it was someone else in his family, or even used in teaching. When I looked up the patches and badges, I see that whoever owned it was a Sargeant in the Army 24th Division. It is decorated with ribbons for WWII Occupation service, United Nations service in Korea between 6/27/50 and 7/27/54, heroic service in Korea (w/two bronze stars), a silver star, and a purple heart. The uniform is complete, with shirt, jacket, pants, and blue silk cravat.
Before I go listing it for sale on Ebay, I thought I'd hunt around and see if anyone from the 24th, or from a family member of a 24th veteran, might want it. I'd like to see it get to a "home." Not sure why this is affecting a 34-year-old non-military woman this way, or why I've invested so much time into trying to figure it out, but it just got to me, seeing it there in the trash. Drop me an e-mail at auntdawnsattic@yahoo.com if you have information or are interested. Thanks and God Bless.

Comments: We are working on a film documentary of ND's most decorated soldier, M/Sgt Woodrow Keeble -- also known as Woody or Chief. Big guy, very strong, a member of the Sioux tribe of North/South Dakota.
We are searching for people who served or knew Keeble or have photographs of him. He served in WWII in the South Pacific, starting at Guadalcanal. Re-entered service in 1950 and fought in Korea with Co. G, 19th Inf Regt, 24th ID. Led 1st Platoon in Operation Nomad. Silver Star at Hill 585, on or about Oct 15-18, 1951. Distinguished Service Cross on Oct 20, 1951 at Hill 770 for leading 3 platoons, then single-handedly taking out three pillboxes on above hillside. Mst Sgt Keeble was twice recommended for the MOH for this action, but the paperwork was twice lost.
The family continues to seek this honor for him. Please, if you have any information, contact me.

Comments: JUST FYI and hope to recieve Information on anyone that may have served with my Father. A letter sent to Olen E. Noble (aka-Bud) from Lt. Ralph R. Balestrieri (from New Jersey) in 1981.
Dear Bud, This is a personal commendation for your actions in Korea while assigned as Recon Sergeant, forward observer, section 1 Battery C, 13th Field Artilliry Battalion, 19th Regiment Combat Team, 24th Infantry Divsion.
While attached to Company K on two separate ocassions, during the month of April, during very heavy fighting of eraly 1951 you performed above and beyond the call of duty. Your courage and quick thinking helped considerably in holding company K together on both occassions. You certainly deserve and earned a medal for each occassion, but unfortunetly circumstances did not allow me to put you in for one at the time. I, and no doubt others, remember and appreciate your service.
The Lt. sent a personal gift to my father in place of his error in not sending a commendation in for him.
Dad never spoke much about his service in WWII or Korea.
I would like to know more about this battle or events if anyone could help. I know there was an article written at the time (Stars & Stripes News) about a Company K that was thought to have been wiped out but reappeared and survived a large attack in April 1951. I hope others may benefit from this information I have passed on. Thank You and God Bless You All.

Comments: WOJG Bruce Benton Langfitt was a member of the 24th Div. at the outset of the Korean War. I am not sure of the Reg. but think it was the 19th reg. and most likely attached to an Artilary Unit.
He was reported KIA in July of 1950 but I am unable to find his name listed under the 24th Div. Casualty list ( all units). Does anyone the surved with the 24th Div. remember anything about WOJG Langfitt....his unit, where he was killed, was he captured??? I served in Korea with the 2nd Div. and know how records can get mixed up. I was captured May of 1951 and my family got bits and pieces of info but never received confirmation I was still alive until May of 1953.

But from what he did say he was in communications and went across enemy lines to set up communication lines . If anyone served with my Dad and remembers him please let him know. He wonders about you all the time wondering who is alive and who never made it. He would love hearing from any of you.He has an emptiness in his heart for those who know what he knows but can't talk about it and don't have to talk about it because you know.Hoping to hear from anyone. He was also in Japan on R&R.

Walter S. Coble
Seeking infomation about Sgt. Walter S. Coble believe he served during
the Korean War in the 24th Infantry (unsure about this since he also
during his career with the 1st Infantry, Second Infantry, as well as
1st Cavalry Div.).
Any info. you might have or suggestions on how I might get started on
gathering info would be highly appreciated.
Meantime, regarding Walter S. Coble:
his service number was RA13292317 he served during the Korean War and
served through 1963/64 when he retired. He died in 1994. I would be
interested to hear from anyone that served with him during the Korean
War so that I might get some perspective on what he experienced as he
was not very interested to discuss his war experiences with us
(children). I do know he looked forward to the day when the Korean War
veterans would be recognized with a memorial and was quite active in
the VFW and DAV in Pulaski Virginia. The few times he did speak of the
Korean War his thoughts were always with his buddies from his units
and always filled with nostalgia and the wish to meet with them
once more.
