SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN

Comments: I joined the 24th recon co on Thanksgiving day, 1953 after a short ride on an LST from Sasabo. Japan, at Camp 9 in Pusan Korea. We atayed there most of the winter, then traveled by train to Tague, where we performed gaurd duty at a multy vehicle storage facility for about a month. We traveled north to the railhead, picked up our vehicles and traveled the MSR to Yangu Valley. The above took place between late nov 1953 to March-April 54.
Sgt Borbon was the driver of the tank that I was assigned to. As time progressed I became gunner, then driver. I do not remember that there was another Connors other than me, Daniel E. Connors. I do remember the names of the men he mentioned. The 24th ship back to Japan, but I was transfered to the 7th div, 17th reg, Hq Co motorpool until rotation back to the states in March 1955. I went to radar repair school, went back to Korea two more tours with the 38th Arty Brigade, and retired shortly later with 20 yrs-4days. My best assignment was with the Taro Leaf Div.

Comments: I'm trying to gather information about my father's tour of duty in Korea. He is currently under going treatmet for Alzhimers. I've always been told he was wounded more than once during his time in the Army.(He always said 4 times including histime Vietnam.) He also always relates a story of how he was a POW in Korea for a short time before he managed to escape. We know he was definitely wounded on Oct 29, 1951 in Kumsong. I would appreciate any additional information I can get.

Comments: I am a US Army Light Cavalry Troop commander. I am trying to get input from veterans that served in combat with light cavalry (i.e., scout cars, jeeps, M8, dismounted, etc)units. I will use input on training (what training was most important and useful in combat), tactics (i.e., what worked against both armored and dismounted enemy threats) to conduct my unit's training here. There is no true doctrine for light cavalry; most of it is modified from the "heavy" Cav. Thanks in advance.

Comments: Looking for information about my father, Sgt. Everette Austin Jr. He was in 21st infantry regiment and also served in the 24 recon company around Sept 1950. He was young at the time, I think he would have been 17. He was airborne qualified in 1949 at Fort Benning. He died in 1999 but talked seldom about his tour in Korea. I am interested in any stories about my father.
