Comments: My fellow Soldiers, my son will be traveling to Korea as a teacher to instruct Koreans in English. He recently graduated from Mississippi State University. He was born in Germany. This will be his first time traveling alone outside the continental United States. If you know of any schools, in the Seoul or Youngson areas with a tainted reputaion please contact me. I want to advise my son on current pit falls American Civilians face in Korea. I'm especially interested in crime involving civilians and areas not favorable to young americans.
If you served in the 7th Infantry Division during the 1980's or with the 59th Ordnance Brigade in the 1980's I would love to hear from you.

Comments: Hello, My father is Donald Heaston, he was stationed at the 8th Army Stockade in Japan approx 1948-1052 and guarded Japanese POWs. I would like to find someone who might remember him and get them in contact with each other. We do have a few photos we could share. He remembers Tojo was in the prison the same time he was there. Unfortunately, he doesn't remember exactly which Company he was with. The only name he remembers is Johnny Walters, who was his best man at his wedding. Thanks for taking the time to read this and please contact me if you have some information at:

Comments: When the North Koreans attacked South Korea in June 1950, elements of the 24th Infantry Division including the 24th MP Company were the first to arrive in Korea, where they fought a delaying action against overwhelming odds. The delay permitted the United Nations to build up its forces near Pusan and the division was awarded the Presidential Citation (Army) for its actions. Over the next nineteen months the Division units and the 24th MP Company, 24th Infantry Division fought in seven campaigns and was twice decorated by the Republic of Korea. In February 1952 the "Victory Division" returned to Japan where it served as part of the Far East reserve. In July 1953 the division went back to Korea to restore order in prisoner of war camps. The following year the division returned to Japan, where it served until February 1955. At that time the 24th deployed to Korea for another tour of duty.

Comments: I was with the 24th Military Police Co. from 3 -56 to 6 -57. I also went back to Korea and the DMZ in 2000 and have pictures from both times. It sure would be lots of fun to swap stories with anyone who served there at that time.

I was 8 years old when he was killed by a drunk driver at the age of 38.

Comments: Gentelmen,
I was to young to have served with you but I was an MP from 1985 to 1988. The reason for the message is that I have come across a "Penquin" lighter that has a Standing Bulldog MP with baton. At the top is 24TH M.P. CO. . On the reverse is an emblem with a gold figure and the number 24 beside the legs. It also has at the bottom FIRST A SOLIDER. Being a former MP myself it caught my interest, I won it at an auction. Any history would be great.

Comments: I am doing research on a murder in Fukuoka, Japan in May of 1947. Trying to find out which MP unit within the 24th Infantry Division would have been stationed in Fukuoka at the time and would have likely be involved with this case. Please respond if you have any knowledge that would help clarify what I should be looking for. Thank you.

Comments: I was operations clerk. The only names I remember from that time are Lowell Timm who rotated back to the state of Washington and another clerk by the name of Brown. I will go back thru what I have from that time and try and refresh my memory. I just thought of putting in 24th MP Co on MSN and the this site came up. Oh, just thought of another name. Lt Ginda. "see" you later.

Comments: I served in Company A 709th MP SV BN in Germany (Frankfurt) 1946 to 1948, discharged, enlisted in ERC, was recalled to active duty Sept 1950, assigned to 24th MP Company, 24th Infantry Division in mid Dec 1950, discharged again in October 1951. Altho I remember many incedents during those months in Korea - I can't remember names of Buddies or names of places as we advanced and retreated on the penisula. I guess Police work was in my blood as I was a Police Officer from 1949 to 1974 (except while on Military Leave during My Korean Service)

Comments: I'm doing some research on the battles that took place on Hill 303. I've been told that there was a platoon of MPs from the 24th MP CO who were trapped in Taejon, and I've heard that some of them escaped and moved south to Hill 303. If anyone has any information on any MPs in the 24th MP CO at this time (July-Aug 1950), please contact me at wiwicv@hotmail.com.....Thank You in advance

A Special Story - Sgt. Metzger |
 |
 |
Goran Andersson wrote on 2000-02-11 17:37:00.0
Comments: Miracle still happens: I must tell you, and with this letter give other people hope: Hope not to give up searching.A wonderful story telling about sadness and reunion.Hope and giving up. First of all..why is a swedish guy interested to tell american veterans about this story: 1945 sgt 1/cl Owen H Metzger met a girl from Japan named Leiko Dezaki. In 1949 they received a daughter given the name Irene Idesaki. Sgt Metzger and Leiko tried to get married but it was impossible. Leiko was sick in TBC and therefore they were forbidden to marry. Metzger was sent back to USA in 1950 and came back to Korea..to serve and to be close to his daughter and fiancee. In 1951 Leiko died. Irene was sent to her grandparents in Japan..and they hated her from the first moment. When she was five they sent her to an orphanage. After five weeks a swedish missionary couple adopted her. After that she was raised in Japan and moved to Sweden when she was seventeen. Her first love was a US soldier serving in Japan. He was sent to Vietnam and returned back to USA in a body bag.Irene could never say goodbye. At this time Irene was 16. In 1969 she ´was married to a swedish guy. The dearest of all her possessions was the letters from her father OWEN H METZGER to her mother LEIKO. When she was 20 she wrote a letter to her father. She received assistance from US Embassy to locate him. She never received any answer back. In 1989 she divorced. 1998 we met and we are now married. In April 1998 I star searsching for her father and after a long story we received a letter from USA...telling us that her father died in 1980(TBC)Irene had 6 half siblings in USA/WA. Her oldest sisters had been searching for her since 1954..believing she was living in Japan. No answer..not a sign and Owen refused to answer any questions concerning his daughter. In april 1999 we went to USA and for the first time Irene and her siblings met at Tacoma airport. So many tears...so much joy...so much happiness..The family for the first time together celebrated wit a thanksgiving dinner in April. Nowadays we are in contact every week...phone and mail...and the upcoming summer two of her siblings will come to Sweden and visit us. Two questions: Anyone knowing Sgt Metzger..please tell me about his good sides and bad sides...Irenes father as a human being..If any one anytime met her mother...they were living in yamaguchi/iwakuni. Leiko was born in Kaminosekumura 1928. Leiko has written letters to Owen, is there any possibilty to receive some help to translate---at least one letter? They are written with Japanese signs and Irene does not understand the signs.
