Comments: Mr. Tyler served in the Korean War from the spring 1950 to the fall of 1952. His records were destroyed by fire and are no longer available. I have informaton to show service from 1950 to 1960. These records indicate his total service was with the USAF, however he contends that his initial service was with the U.S. Army and that he did not join the USAF until his discharge from the army. What he needs is any infromation that will confirm his tour of duty as a Combat Infantryman in Korea to help support a disability claim with the VA.

Comments: I am looking for information about my Father, George Ernest Wells (Sergeant First Class). He served in Company C, 5th RCT, 8th Army "Bastard Battalion). I Was told his Company served with the 24th until Feb 1952, when the 24th was sent to Japan. His company was then (possibly) attached to the 25th. I again want to Thank all the Fellas who have helped me with my quest thus far!!!My Dad rarely spoke of his time in Korea. We found out after his death (9/1/97) that he had been awarded 2 Bronze Stars. He was never one to wave his own flag. He suffered from terriable nightmares. We never dared to touch him while he was sleeping.(He came up swinging) He served with a fella that had a saying, "When I die I'm going to heaven for lunch, if I don't see your smiling faces...I'm going to hell to join the bunch." Maybe this will jog some memories. Dad's Company was sent into Koje-do POW Camp during the riots. This involved hand to hand combat. Dad served out the rest of his tour in Belvoir Virginia. He trained soldiers in demolition and trained new recruits for their Korean tour.My Dad was a solid 5ft 8in. He had auburn hair and green eyes. He could be as mean as nails with a hot temper. He didn't take crap from anyone!! He was always an honest man....I never knew him to tell a lie. He spoke it like he thought it. This did not endure him to a lot of people. He was courageous! He would be the best man to have at your side in battle!! My hope is to eventually make connect with someone that served with Dad and knew him. I want to know everything I can about my Dad....(good or bad) Please if you knew my Dad or maybe have contact with someone that might have....contact me!!! Thanks so much! Norma

Comments: My father is now deceased. It would be VERY helpful to me to understand him better, if I could have any information regarding his experiences/service in the Korean War. I have been told that he was a brown belt in karate, and taught it, that he tied the Marine Corps long distance shooting record, that he spent time hidden on islands and sent locations for our troops to fire on by morse code. Possibly did unspecified work with some special forces unit. I don't know what really happened, I was too young to understand. If you knew him, I'd truly appreciate any comments. Thank you.

Author's Biography...

Curtis J. Morrow at age 17 (1950) enlisted in the U.S. Army; on completion of basic training was sent to Fort Belvoir Virginia for demolition training. During that training he learned of the so-called police action taking place in Korea, and like many other young troopers, cut short his training by volunteering for combat duty there. On December 4, Mr. Morrow was assigned to the 24th Infantry Regiment Combat Team as a rifleman where he served for nine months. Twice wounded, he was awarded the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, and four Battle Stare. His last two and a half years was served in Kyushu Japan, with the 8081st, Airborne & Packing Company, of the 187th RCT. There he attended jump-school and became a Paratrooper. In 1954 Mr. morrow was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army. He now speaks at schools and is frequently a guest on radio talk shows and occasionally, television. He is also a founding member of the 24th Infantry Regiment Association of Illinois. A member of the Veteran of Foreign Wars, the Korean War Veterans Association and the American-Legion. He's very active in promoting the history of African-American participation in the military history of America; and have had several article published in Chicago's newspaper.

At present Mr. Morrow is working on children stories, using African mythology; and promoting his two publishes books, What's a Commie Ever Done to Black People? and Return of The African American (a memoir of his eleven years in Ghana West-Africa). While there (1966) he was adopted by an Ashanti-Paramount Chief and bestowed the name of “Achampong.” and thereafter called, “Kojo Achampong.”

Mr. Morrow have recently (March 6 through the 14th, 2001) returned from a reminiscing trip to South Korea, in memory of a famous battle his unit, the 24th RCT, spearheaded with an amphibious boat crossing of the Han River. It was to be the final liberation of Seoul, South Korea… i.e., Operation Ripper.

For Information concerning his Reminiscing trip, and Presentations, please visit>>

He served in the Inf. during WW 2 and was a career soldier. He married a girl in Augusta Ga. in 1949,but I can't remember her name. She had an aunt named Mattie Proctor Any info greatly appreicated.

Reginald H. Pitts wrote on 2000-11-14 10:06:18.0

Comments: My father, Pfc. Augustus H. Pitts, Jr., of Woodstown NJ, enlisted in the US Army in 1948 and was in the Army of Occupation in Japan until the invasion of Korea, when he was among the first troops sent over there. He was severely wounded and spent the remainder of the war (and a significant time afterwards) at Walter Reed Army Hospital and the VA hospitals in Philadelphia, Lyons NJ and East Orange NJ. He would never speak of his service, and most of the information I have is in bits and pieces. He died in the East Orange VA Hospital. Does he appear on the roster of the 24th Infantry,Regiment, 25th Infantry Division? Thanks for your help. R.H. Pitts, Elkins Park, Pa.
