It is both a way of honoring him and trying to find closure. It would give the family both tremendous pleasure and a sense of peace to connect with someone who was associated with "Bob's" outfit, even if they didn't know each other. He was sent to a hospital in Japan, then later returned to Korea. When he got back his original unit was turned over to the 40th Infantry Division (California National Guard). Because of this reassignment, my father never received the purple heart for being wounded in combat from schrapnel. After serving the remainder of his tour he was honorably discharged in California National Guard -40th Infantry Division. He would like to find anyone he served with. G, 19TH INF REG, 24TH DIV SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: We are working on a film documentary of ND's most decorated soldier, M/Sgt Woodrow Keeble -- also known as Woody or Chief. Big guy, very strong, a member of the Sioux tribe of North/South Dakota. We are searching for people who served or knew Keeble or have photographs of him. He served in WWII in the South Pacific, starting at Guadalcanal. Re-entered service in 1950 and fought in Korea with Co. G, 19th Inf Regt, 24th ID. Led 1st Platoon in Operation Nomad. Silver Star at Hill 585, on or about Oct 15-18, 1951. Distinguished Service Cross on Oct 20, 1951 at Hill 770 for leading 3 platoons, then single-handedly taking out three pillboxes on above hillside. Mst Sgt Keeble was twice recommended for the MOH for this action, but the paperwork was twice lost. The family continues to seek this honor for him. Please, if you have any information, contact me.
