I played piano in the dance band and cymbals in the marching and concert band. In 1963, I met my wife at the snack bar there on Sheridan - 46 years later... still married and having a great time. Keywords: I joined the band six months before the war. We landed in Pusan on the 4th of july 1950. Some of the men volunteered for front line duty. Some were wounded and some were killed. I was good friends with Ronald Felsot and Harley Barstow,remember B G Cargan, Henry Wackerly,Irving Sokol, Lenord Jablonski . |

| GREG CRAMPTON wrote on May 17, 2010 City and State: MI Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: My father, Richard (Dick) Crampton played clarinet in the 24th Infantry Division Band in Korean in 1951. He was transfered to Sendai, Japan and played at the Occupational Peace Treaty when Japan was presented with their colors. He was and still is from Madison Heights Michigan. He had a good friend Hank Gavoni from the east coast that he lost touch with. It would be nice to hear from others to learn more about their experiences. He traveled to Japan on the US James O'Hara from Seattle on September 4, 1951 and then debarked on the USNS Gen. Black to Inchon Korea on September 22nd. BAND Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: We were stationed in Kokura Japan when this conflict broke out with the headquarters company. Captain told us before we shipped out for Korea that we would kick ass and be back in Japan within 6 months. That never happened. Members of our band who were transfered to the Defense platoon that was responsible for guarding General Deans forwrd headquarters should not forget the event referred to as the "Road Block".
