RE PFC MIYAZAKI |
| JOHN (JACK) DRING wrote on February 26, 2011 City and State: FUKAYA Unit: 229TH SIGNAL OPERATIONS COMPANY Service or Relationship: FRIEND OF VETERAN Comments: I was new to unit (Sep 1950); was radio operator at Kunuri, North Korea; was sent to South Korean Army.PFC Miyazaki was sent to Turkish Brigade, went MIA on Nov 27, 1950. Our unit sent to Japan in May 1951. I was a soldier for 7 years; I now live in Japan with Japanese wife, Hideko Ambe who has Nisei relatives in L.A. I'm now 80. I may visit Hawaii this year; my cousin lives in Kaneohe, Oahu. I now correspond with younger brother and niece of PFC Marvin Hamelin (Vermont) who died as POW on Jan 27, 1951. I can write to you, or maybe meet you in future. Please get in touch with me. I still remember November 1950. Keywords: Re Kunuri, North Korea, Nov 25, 1950 |

RE CPL CONROY FROM JACK DRING |
| JOHN (JACK) DRING wrote on February 19, 2011 City and State: FUKAYA Unit: 229TH SIGNAL OPERATIONS COMPANY Service or Relationship: FRIEND OF VETERAN Comments: I was new to unit; PFC Buchanan spoke of Cpl Conroy. Ate Thanksgiving lunch on Nov 25, 1950. Sgt Kline sent me to South Korean Army; sent Conroy to Turkish Brigade, I think. Conroy later went MIA. PFC Delouis was part of team, I think. He made it back and said in a nightmare, "We have to go back and get Conroy." Our unit was sent to Japan in May 1951. I was a soldier for 7 years. I taught English (1964-1999) in Japan; now live here with Japanese wife (who has Nisei relatives in U.S.A.). I'm in contact with family of buddy Marvin Hamelin (VT); he died as a POW in Jan 1951. Please contact me; can send my photo. Keywords: Kunuri, North Korea, November 25, 1950 |

RE ARTHUR HEALD FROM JACK DRING |
| JOHN (JACK) DRING wrote on February 18, 2011 City and State: FUKAYA Unit: 229TH SIGNAL OPERATIONS COMPANY Service or Relationship: FRIEND OF VETERAN Comments: I was new to the unit (joined Sep 1950 at N.J.) but I remember him at Sunchon, North Korea, in Oct 1950. Someone said he was quiet (didn't talk much) when going into his (2-man) tent. We moved up to Kunuri, had Thanksgiving Day dinner on Nov 25, 1950. Sgt Kline sent me to South Korean Army, and PFC Heald to Turkish Brigade. My buddy Marvin Hamelin became a POW on Nov 27; he died as POW on Jan 27, 1951. I'm in contact with his niece and younger brother in VT, U.S.A. I remember still names of Conroy, Hamelin, Heald, Miyazaki; cannot forget them. I'm 80 now; if I get your mailing address, I'll send photos of me. Keywords: Kunuri, North Korea, November 25, 1950 |

UNIT INFORMATION/229TH SIG OPS CO |
| SCOTT WALLACE wrote on January 12, 2000 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I am seeking information on the 229th Signal Co (OPS)service, awards, ultimate disposition. My father was an enlisted man in one of the 229th signal teams. He was part of a group of veteran Reserve soldiers called up in 1950 and retrained at Camp Lewis,WA. He served 1950-1951. His team was attached to different branches of service and foriegn units. I would like to obtain a unit history for him and ascertain unit awards. He doesn't really think it is important but I would like to pass the info to his Grandchildren. Any information on the 229th Signal co or its parent BN would be appreciated. He has some interesting stories of the retreat and escape from Seoul and the Chinese intervention. Having been to Korea myself has given me a greater understanding of his time there and his frostbite. Thank you for your time. Respectfully Scott W.
