Specific dates May 11, 1952 - June 10, 1952. Squd of tanks came out into Kumsong Valley short up Charlie Chink Dry creek bed - railroad cars on track past that to railroad bridge and main tracks. I would be glad to make copies to send child or gradchild might like to see pop or grandpop in a real shoot'em up. Uncle Ken died in '75 when I was 2, so I didn't get a chance to know him. I'm sure there are several vets out there who supplemented their income with Uncle Ken's money, as he was known to enjoy a good game of cards while he was over there.

Seeking someone who served with Otis Edward Olcott |
 |
 |
Nancy and John Ward wrote on 2000-11-28 19:18:01.0
Comments: My boyfriend's father (deceased 1978), Otis Edward Olcott, served with the 224th Infantry Reg. in the Korean War (total years in service 1/10/51-11/21/52), and we're trying to find out more about his military career, his time in Korea - where the 224th served, and someone who may remember him. We don't know which division he was in as a copy of Otis's DD-214 only indicates the 224th and under the list of medals, he did receive a Combat Infantry Badge (don't know if he would've received something additional had he been a radioman or truck mechanic).
My boyfriend was fortunate in that his dad didn't perish in the Korean War but Otis did pass on at an early age as did John'smother. I'd like to help him put some pieces together about his father as there is no one to contact on his paternal side. Since Otis died before John's own sons were born, he'd like to have something to pass along to them about their grandfather. That he served honorably in Korea when called upon by his country to do so - John's own sons ought to know that and feel proud of the grandfather they never knew. I'm also trying to ascertain if there are any photo IDs the military may have - or someone who served with Otis. We have no photos.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

Ted; My Brother John Albert Cox did indeed enlist in Twin Falls, and he was in the Medical Company that was probably attached to the 224th Inf Regt. I visited him while we were both still in-country in the Spring of '52. Almost everyone in the company was a CO and straight arrow. him? hah! he got everyone else's beer ration and used it to trade for things. He carried a firearm when he was on patrol. To the best of my memory, he was awarded two Bronze Stars and a couple purple hearts.
After he finished his 4 year enlistment he went back to scool and got a PHD in Social Sciences. He attended Univ. of Utah, Univ. of Nebraska and UCLA.

Comments: I am the daughter of Edward Waslaski. I am looking for friends/fellow soldiers of my father. He served in Korea from January 8, 1951-January 7, 1954. When he returned to the States, he was stationed at Ft. Bliss, Texas. My father died in 1991 and I am looking for anyone that knew him and wouldn't mind sharing some stories with me. I also have many pictures and would like to find who the soldiers are. Thank you ALL who served. God Bless each and everyone of you.

Comments: At the present time I am building a web page on the 40th Inf Div. I am looking for photos that I can put on the site. I would like the photos to be from the Korean War period. Photos can be of people or places of interest. Photos of the Sandbag Castle, Heartbreak Ridge, Kumwha, Punchbowl, anything of interest that other members of the 40th Div can relate to. I have started the site and have a few photos. They can be seen at http://www.bob-west.com . When the page comes up just click on the 40th Div patch.(For you people that forgot it's the blue patch with the sunburst in the center.) (Smile) Thank you, any help what-so-ever will be greatly appreciated. BOB WEST

Comments: I assist veterans with their claims through my office in Beaver County. I am working with a gentleman named George Germusa from Pennsylvania who is trying to get VA benefits. He is having a hard time due to the fact that his records were mostly likely in the area at NPRC that suffered the most damage in their fire in 1973. He needs documentation that he suffered veribiable stressors while in the military. Any help?
Keywords: Looking for anyone who may of served between April 1953 to May 1954 with the above unit. Punch bowl, Sand Bag Castle and Chorwon Valley. Also any casualties in April of 1953.
