EXPOSURE TO CHEMICALS DURING KOREAN WAR

Comments: During the Korean War my father was atached to a Chemical unit. Because the military records were burned in St. Louis, we are not able to find any records which could prove that gas exposures could be the reason my father's medical condition is deteriorating. He is having a hard time talking and moving his extremities. The reason for that is unexplained; however, the exposure to chemicals during the war could be the reason. He indicated that in the unit he was serving at was required to use protective gas masks. I will appreciate any information concerning this matter.

Thank you;

Florentino Santiago, Jr.

Comments: Good morning everyone, I'm hoping one of you might have a little information for me and my Mother-in-law. We recently lost her husband (Charles Finley)and his medals were re-issued to her but we were told that all his medical and military records were lost in a fire. On his dd-214 under duty assignment it says (DET #12 1262nd ASU) is this his military unit? We are at an impass to find any info about him by alternative methods without knowing this. Can someone please help? He mentioned being in Pusan and being near Seoul, and mixing Napome. I'm hoping someone out there can help. His nickname (FLASH). Thank you, Sincerely Emma Finley

Comments: I am a high school teacher in Kansas and am trying to instill a sense of what the various engagements were like for my students. Their assignment is to find a letter or diary entry of a Kansan who was involved in the Korean War. It can be to or from the area of conflict. I just want my kids to see the people who lived through the war as "real" instead of just in a book or on a piece of paper. Many letters and diaries have been published on the web for other conflicts but Korea has been difficult to find. Any help in this area would be wonderful. God bless each of you.
