Comments: Twice some years ago I lived in Korea with my USAF husband at which time a man once known to "GI Company" as "Shorty" or "Johnny" worked in our quarters...now known as KC. For over thirty years after the Korean War he worked for Americans in Korea. He remembers the kindness of many Americans....and in particular of one Tom Cannon and his mother (from the States). I would like to hear from anyone who knew him...in particular would like to be in touch with Tom Cannon. The locations mentioned are approximate...from memory years after, but hopefully helpful. Thank you!!

Comments: I got to Korea late in 1954, trained down to Pusan for assignment to the 2BPO (the coldest train ride I ever had) and remained there until the unit was closed and relocated to 1BPO in Inchon. The PO was at Yung Dung Po and the CoHQ was located on Wolmi-do island, all part of the 8132nd AU, commanded by a Col. Butcher. The commmander of 1BPO at that time was, I believe, a Capt. Greathouse. I did some railway postal duty for a time and then went off in a special massignment that tok me to the end of 1955. In late February of 1956, I flew to Midway, Honolulu, and then to Travis AFB for a trip back to Ft. Ord from where it all began. I had an opportunity to travel throughout Korea and subsequently down to Taipei, to Hong Kong, and then to Thailand, all on offical business. I met all manner of folks in Korea, from generals to privates. Some were good friends, others came and went. While I didn't think much of the place, it was clear that the war which had stopped barely 18 months before I got there still had residual dangers, espeically up near Munsan-ni and Chun Chon. I'd be very happy to hear from anyone who was at Wolmi-do during 1955. Thanks, Spence Conley

Comments: I served in the US Army postoffice at Yong Dung Po from Dec 1946 to June 1947. This was "between the wars." We landed from the Gen Weigel transport ship at Inchon by landing craft, Dec. 3, 1947. Left via same method on Weigel June 29, 1947. We would take a large truck from YDP to Inchon every few weeks to get incoming mail. Also, took truckloads of mail to Kimpo airfield about twice a week. Korea was pretty poor and desolate then. Our little P.O. was in a small "house" next to a demolished factory with tall smoke stack, at edge of YDP. We slept in quonset huts a mile or so away.
