Comments: My father-in-law was in the Korean war. He stood at 6'9". I don't know much about his ranking or exactly what he did (that is why I put his height) He was a big guy. I am trying to get in touch with anyone who may have fought with him or knows anyone who has.

Comments: I'm looking for anyone who served with my Grandfather in Korea. He was part of 82nd. He speaks of some great men who served under him as a section leader. He mentioned some of them by name but unfortunatlly I can't remember them. His name is Andrew D. Adame from La Habra, Ca. He turns 80 yrs. Old at the end of Nov. And I'm throwing him a suprise b-day party. I know from spending all my free time with him, he really love to see his old army buddies. So if you served or stationed in NC with Andrew Adame please help me give my Hero a gift he won't soon forget. And to all the Heros of the US armed forces, Thank you. Without you, all of these freedoms, that so many of us take for granite, would not be possible. God Bless.

Comments: Please help me find a chaplain who served in the Pubwon-ni area. I have a (1964?)photo of him with two orphans from Happiness Orphanage, 20 orphans driven weekly to chapel by orphanage father via bus. One child in the picture is Goo Sooni, an Amerasian, about 11 yrs. Her mother: Jung Song Ja, "Mickey" to GIs, from Pubwon-ni, near MIckey Mouse Corner. Just before chaplain returned to US, he took Sooni to Elvis movie, "Viva Las Vegas" and to base cafeteria for hamburg. The chaplain left "a lot of money" with Sooni's mother to "take care of Sooni". Sooni was rescued by the author, Pearl S. Buck, brought to the states, is now married, a mother of two grown sons, middle school math teacher and a strong supporter of the Pearl S. Buck efforts to care for Amerasian children around the world. I am writing Sooni's memoir. She would like very much to thank the chaplain for his kindness. My husband and I are trying to find the gentleman for her. If anyone has any inkling as to the identification of this chaplain, any source for our search, or whatever, we do not have his name and would appreciate very much any help someone might be able to give. Bless you. Carol Wedeven If you're interested, we will send digitized photo.

Comments: I was a friend of Frank Marx. We trained as Rangers together at Fort Benning, GA, then we were assigned to the 1st Airborne Ranger Co. in Korea. Upon deactivation of the 1st Co, in August 1951, we were both assigned to Co. I, 187th Airborne at Beppu, Japan. After a few weeks with Frank in Japan, I volunteered for reassignment to Korea and was assigned to the 8th Cav Reg't, then Co. F, 38th Infantry. While with the latter unit, I saw Frank at Koje Do in May 1952. I returned from Korea in Nov 1952 and have never heard from Frank since that time. Believe I have a photo of us both in my album. Frank was a good soldier and a nice fella.

1st Infantry Ranger Company (Airborne)
Hi,
I served with the 1st Infantry Ranger Company (Airborne) during the
Korean War.
We were attached to the 2nd Division. Our Company was with the 23rd
Regt at Chipyong-ni and played a major role in preventing a
Divisional disaster during the May Day massacre.
The 8213 AU later known as the 8th Army Ranger Company, was with the
2nd Division during the retreat from North Korea in Oct-Dec 1950.
Capt Charles Ross who was the last C.O. of the 8th Army Ranger
Company later became the C.O. of the 1st Ranger Infantry Company
(Airborne) in June 1951.
The 8213 AU (the official designation) was not airborne and was
formed and in combat in Korea prior to the arrival of the Ranger
Infantry Companies(Airborne).
Individual Company histories have been written or are in the process
of being written and I can put you in touch with a number of people
who are researching and writing on the Korean War. I recognize that
you may already be in touch with them.
Keep up the good work.BTW, when were the photos at Chipyong-ni taken?

My Father and I were going through any and all documents availible for
information on my uncle Cpl. Harold F Adkinson.
He and my Dad were very close. My Dad has s[ent a great deal of time
over the last few years trying to piece together what happened on that
fateful night.
He became missing on the night of May 19, 1951 during the May Massacre.
His unit (1st Ranger Company (Airborn) had been surrounded by the
Chinese near Hill 710 close to Kumagol. They were retreating in a
"moving box" artillery barrage. It is our understanding that this was
close to the "no name line".
My Father has interviewed numerous friends and comrades of Harold's but
no one is sure what happened to him. If you could gather any
information on him or the places mentioned above we would appreciate
your help.
Thanks

I am the firstborn of a Korean War vet, and I am very interested in
learning about the horrific experiences that shaped my father for
life.
He served in the second Army (Indianhead) division, Airborne
Rangers, and was a forward observer.
He has rarely spoken of his service life, and then usually a
passing remark (example: When his dog died some years ago, he
commented that he cried like a baby, he hadn't cried like that
since Korea).
When I was a child, I was aware of his Korean involvement from the
chilling one-sided radio exchanges he re-lived during his sleep,
spoken as if he were awake: clear, lucid, loud, and urgent.
I sat on the edge of his bed with astonishment during several
"memory battles", replayed through his "radio nightmares" as he
spoke of Red Dog 1 (2, 3,...), Hill number XXX, triangulating &
coordinating positions, performing timing countdowns, marking
areas with smoke, requesting elevation adjustments, and firing for
effect. And I may have heard my father swear for the first time
during loud and thrashing session where the expletives accompanied
the request for delivery of "everything you got" on this location.
This Project provides me with appreciated information, enlightens
my understanding, and provides a path for my father's healing. I
am grateful for all your work here.
I have since learned that Pops served with the 8th Army for almost
3 yrs in Korea. He received 3 purple hearts, 2 bronze stares, and
a silver star. He spoke with great respect of operating with units
from France and Britain, some of which evidently lost every man.
Sincerely,
Michael G. Lane
PS: My father chose my middle name, Gavin, after a "Jumpin' Jim Gavin",
whom I'm certain was a Korean era influence.
