Comments: My father served in the 7th Cav in Korea as well. His name was Derry Wilson. I have seen a newspaper article from August, 1950 about a firefight where no one was killed. Besides my father, some of the people mentioned were: Sgt William K Dodge of Denver, PFC Charles H Gutherie of Bensonville, Ill., Sgt Archie Ashworth of Beaumont, Tx., Cpl John Andrews, Pfc James Renbold of Phoenix. The article was written by Peter Kalischer who it appears was embedded with the unit. Any of these names ring a bell to anyone? Would love to see pics of this group if there are any out there.

Comments: I am trying to locate a 1st Cavalry veteran named Robert "Pancho" Garcia. Robert may have been attached to a signal outfit with the 1st Cavalry. He was in Germany in 1954. I think he was from Puerto Rico or Texas and was a bit on the heavy side. I would send a photo on request. Any information would be appreciated. Thank you.

Capt. Jerome Dolan in Iconic Photo

Richard Morris wrote on 2007-09-17 16:35:24.0

Comments: A 1941 alumnus of our school just passed away: Dr. Jerome A. Dolan. His obit speaks of his heroic service thusly: At the outbreak of the Korean War he was dispatched as a battalion surgeon with the 89th Cavalry Regiment/1st Cavalry Division. He was the first American physician to cross the 38th parallel... His unit had been surrounded, cut off... Capt. Dolan's valiant service was captured in an iconic photograph taken behind enemy lines and featured in publications back in the states. Wearing his helmet and poncho, Capt. Dolan and his chaplain dodged bullets in a monsoon as they slogged thgouth deep mud to escort a shell-shocked soldier off the battlefield." Being that the photo is labeled asICONIC, is it possible that you've hear of or seen this photo. I'd like to reprint it with an account of his bravery in the next edition of our alumni magazine. If you can point me in any helpful direction our school community would be grateful.

Comments: Looking for anyone who knew or knew of LINFIELD CROSS. He was with the 1st Calvary at Pusan. Was hit by rocket fire within first 5 days of being there. Lost alot of his memory. Was shuffled back and forth between different units to replace casualties. Remembers raiding a Russian built vodka distilliary. Low on ammo, but plenty of drink. Might have served in tank unit as a replacement.

If any of this sounds familiar please e me. Terrance Reis

HOWEVER, HE WAS FIRST LISTED AS MISSING IN ACTION AND SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, MY GRANDPARENTS WERE NOTIFIED, HE WAS KILLED. LATER, HIS BODY WAS SENT HOME. I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE ANY INFORMATION ON HIM. HE WAS BORN JANUARY 21, 1932 AND LISTED JULY 25, 1950 AS DEAD. HE WAS ONLY 18 AT THE TIME. THE WAR IN KOREA HAD JUST BEGUN, TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE. I HAVE READ ON OTHER WEBSITES THAT THESE GUYS' RATIONS WERE SHORT, AND SOMETIMES, THERE WERE NONE. DOES ANYONE KNOW MORE ABOUT THIS. WE DON'T EVEN KNOW EXACTLY WHERE HE WAS AT THE TIME OF DEATH OR ANY FACTS. PLEASE CONTACT ME. THANK YOU. HIS NIECE HE NEVER EVEN KNEW ABOUT. ANN DAVIDSON
