Comments: My father was a brave, proud, man who rarely talked about his Korean experiences - it has been only after his death (October 18, 1998) that my sister and I have been conducting research. My father received numerous medals including the purple heart (which were never presented to him)and is buried in Andersonville National Cemetery. We are looking for any information that would help us record the history of our father and our hero! Any references, resources, names or other information would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Comments: I am looking for anyone that knew my Uncle, T/SGT Frank Westmoreland. He was with M/SGT Stanley T. Adams the night he earned the Medal of Honor. My Uncle was wounded by a concussion grenade and was treated by their medic SGT. Swanson and sent to the aid station for further treatment. This action took place near Sesim-ni, Korea on Feb. 4, 1951. He never received the Purple Heart for his wounds and he has been pursuing it but the military records center in ST. Louis said a lot of the records had been destroyed and they did not have a record of his injuries. Any help would be appreciated.

Comments: Am interested in hearing from anyone who may have known Grady. He was my older brother and I was only 8 when he was KIA on 13 Oct 1951.

I have never learned the real story of how he died and there is so much controversy in the family over this, if anyone knew him would like to hear from you.

Grady was scared on his face and neck from a childhood accident.

CHEJEDO PRISON DUTY

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
Randy DeKoter wrote on 2000-01-25 23:25:01.0

Comments: I am trying to find out any information that someone may have about a prison riot that occurred on Chejedo island. My father was with the first groups of 19th Infantry Regiment soldiers to relieve the ROK soldiers from guarding enemy POW's. He was with a heavy weapons platoon manning a heavy 50 cal. He indicated that there was an incident that an individual opened up the gates of the prison and he attempted to save the individual because the prisoners were rushing out to harm the individual and remembers falling on top of the individual fixed bayonet on his M-1 up. He said he came to 7 days later in a hospital. Does anyone recall an incident like this? My father recently passed away. During the course of his treatment he received an MRI of the head. I asked the attending physician about any wounds to the back of his head(because he had indicated something had happened to the back of his head during the prison incident)the MRI revealed a significant amount of scarring indicating shrapnel to the back of the head. He never received a purple heart for wounds but as evidenced by his MRI he obviously was. Does anyone recall an incident that resembles what I have described? If anyone has any knowledge of this type of incident or knew Pete DeKoter during his duty on Chejedo please let me know. Keep up the good work!

Comments: Have obtained information and contacted individuals sought for almost half a century. Too bad you guys are not in charge of operations like the AMBC and other turf protecting government agencies. You would probably "make it work and fly."

Comments: I was looking for information on the Korean War for a ong time. I was reading the article in our local newpaper about Hal and Ted and I got on their web site and found out more information than has ever been provided by the government. I never knew my Uncle as he was killed in the Korean War in 1950. I was not born until 1968. I am still interested in finding out if anyone out there knew him and how exactly he was killed. His name is Earl P. Elswick. Thanks Hal and Ted.

Comments: Found a story about this website in the news today. I was very excited to rush home and write to whomever reads this. I am the daughter of Mitchell RedCloud, Jr. (Medal of Honor). We are being honored by the U.S Navy naming a sea-lift ship the U.S.S Red Cloud this coming summer.

It is planned for July 9, 1999 but dates have not been finalized yet. If anyone served with my father, I would be interested in hearing from you. He was Army in Korea but a Marine in WWII at age 15.

I would also like to welcome you to join my family and friends at the dedication of the ship if you are near San Diego. I consider all Korean Vets family!

Comments: I thought about going to the Olympic Games in Seoul, and then I remembered the miserable 16 months that I spent in that god forsaken country. As an aside: I was deathly seasick going over on The C. G. Morton and returning on the W. A. Mann. Now my favorite vacation is on a Cruise Ship! There is a slight difference! NOTE from editor, on June 25th 1999 we received notice of Daryl's death from his wife. Our condolences, Ted and Hal Barker

Comments: Landed at Pusan Jan 1,1951 and by train arrived in Seoul approximately Jan 4th. The North had made their push and we regrouped south at Taegu. As the troops pushed North I was assigned to a forward position (I think with 3rd Bat)to make up a five man team with two ammunition trucks. We moved with the front line troops as an emergency ammunition supply support group in case of "cut off" and/or surrounded by the North. The four men I served with, unfortunately, I do not remember their names. Can anyone relate to this operation ?
