Comments: My Father Don C. Clinton Sr. was in Korea From Sept 1, 1950 to June 4, 1951. He was a Cheif of Section of a 155 Howitzer in the 45th Div. 189th FA C Btry from Blackwell OK. My father served for 42 years and 10 months. He ended up being the Battalion Commander of the 189th FA. I served under him as a Captain. My Fatherr is 78 years old and can and will talk about Korea. I am sure he knows some of the people on here and would probably help with some Information. If anyone knows him please contact me at my e-mail and I will try to help in any way I can. I know he has a book of Pictures of Korea and I hope we can find it. My Dad won a Bronze Star in Korea for taking out 9 enemy tanks with direct fire with the 155 Howitzer. Happy New Year From Don II

Comments: The 189 FA, like all FA Bn's, was composed of a HQ Battery, a Service Brty and three Gun Btys; A Bty, B Bty and C Bty. In Korea the 189 was the Heavy Artillery Battalion in the Div equipped with the 155mm Howitzer. Michael E. Gonzales Curator www.45thdivisionmuseum.com

Comments: Mr. Paterson, I think you may have been a little brusk with your comments about web site making a mistake. My father whom I was named after was with the 45th Inf. Div., 189th F.A. BN., B Company. He spoke of the 155mm a great deal, but also spoke of the S.F.R. ( squat, fire and run) missions they made late at night in the Korean country side. They would take 2-3 trucks with 105mm ammo, pulling the 105mm and had designated positions preset to pull into, squat, or set up as fast as possible, fire 3-5 rounds as fast as possible, then pack it up and run as fast as they could to the next location. This course of action would draw enemy fire to the position they had just left, the main 155mm battery spotters would try to locate the Korean fire and bring the 155mm fire in to destroy it. Dad spoke of many close calls playing this cat and mouse game with the N. Koreans. Just because you never saw or fired them in 1953 or later didn't mean they didn't use them in 50, 51 or 52 when many others were in Korea using them. Sincerly, John E. De Armond II

Comments: I am the Chief Instructor for the FA BN of the 1st BN 189th Regiment (FA) located in OKC, OK. My current unit has the DIRECT lineage of the old 1/189 Field Artillery Battalion. I was recently handed an old picture of the FA Battery from Minco, OK taken at Ft Sill, OK in January-1941. I was wondering if there aare any past members, or anyone else that may be able to tell me some history about the Battery, etc.

Comments: Did anyone know my dad, Andy Robert Anderson?

His records were destroyed in a fire at the records building in St. Louis. And he is trying to get together some information regarding proof that he was in the Korean War. He does have his DD214, but that is not enough according to the people in Washington. Man, Wash. DC is being so difficult to put it lightly. This all has to do with my father having Post Traumatic Distress Disorder. Which according to DC he doesn't have enough proof that he was around enemy fire during the period of August to September 1953. (I think that is what they are looking for, for evidence to show that, that caused the PTDD) Does anyone remember this time ?? It makes me so mad. He fought for this country and they are giving him the run around. And he even got a medal.

Any information would be welcome. Plus , I am sure my dad would love to talk with any of you guys.

My dad lives in Sullivan , Missouri. not far from St. Louis. Where he, my mom and all of his 6 kids grew up.

If anyne has any advice, or has gone though this type of trial trying to get the governement to help , please let me know. Or if you just want to talk to my dad. That would be great. Oh, by the way, my dad was kissed by Marilyn Monroe when she stopped off for a show in Korea.

Here is my contact information. My dad doesn't have email. Oh, and he is moving to Texas (outside of Dallas) next month. Most of his kids are here. So if anyone knows of any reunions going on here , please let me know. I would love to go with my dad.

Thank you so much! Lisa Anderson

Shane Darwin O'Connell

Hello. I am looking for information about my father who served in the
Korean War. His name was Shane Darwin O'Connell. I understand he was
awarded a service medal at one point but I never found out what for. Any
information will be helpful. Thanks.

My father was not wounded in combat but suffered as a disabled veteran
the rest of his life with post traumatic syndrome until his death 4 years
ago. He served in the Army in Headquarters 45th inf. division from
1951-1954 I believe. Would date of birth & social security number be
helpful? My father worked in Korea in communications, delivering
messages. I can try to find out more but all of his side of my family are
dead now and there's not much I can find out without them to ask.

Do you have any other ideas on where to search? Thank you so much
for your help. I really appreciate it.

Very interested in viewing buddies with e-mail addresses. Hope
to communicate with some. One of my school buddies, Rex McGugin
was in the Signal Company, along with a cousin of mine, Roy Mahaffey.

The article that I read in the 45th Division News was written by
George T. Nolan.

I was mobilized with them on September 16, 1940 for a years
training.....5.5 years later discharged.

I was still eager and when the unit was reorganized I was there. We
made a few summer drills and was called into service again in
September, I think 1950. At any rate we sailed out of New Orleans
in March during the celebration, through the Panama Canal, to Frisco,
and on to Hokkaido (the north island of Japan).

Then into Korea with the advanced unit on Thanksgiving Day. Again
my unit HQ 189 FA BN.

I would invite a visit to my WEB Site:cassnet.com/shepherd
