Comments: I would like to hear from anyone who knew my dad in Korea (James M. 'Macky' BATEMAN, Florence, SC). He served with the 4th Ranger Inf Co until it was deactivated and then was assigned to the 187th RCT (ABN). He jumped with the 187th and was injured, maybe on the jump, I'm not sure. I do know that he had to come off of jump status and was never able to get back on. Any information would be great. I would like to pass on some family history to my kids and grandkids. Thanks and AIRBORNE!

Comments: Looking for anyone who might have served with my father, Doyle Nelson. I don't know anything about his time serving except he was in Korea and a paratrooper. He has been in a nursing home for the past 15yrs and never talked about Korea before. I do know, however, that the war changed him according to my mother. He came back a different man. I grew up with that man and would like to know as much as possible about who he was during that time. If you remember him, please share your story with me. I'd appreciate it very much. Thank you.

He was 17 when he enlisted. He was so proud of all that he has done. So proud of his country and the men he served with. My father was SGT first class and a paratrooper. He received many commendations and the purple heart. My dad died of cancer. I miss him and the way he used to tell us of the Korean War. How he was in a M.A.S.H. Does anyone recoginize the name? Any one serve with him? I love and miss my dad. I am proud to be an American and proud of the men and women who defend our country. GOD BLESS AND KEEP US SAFE.

Comments: Looking for Veterans who may have served with my Dad in Korea or after.Dad recently passed away and he never talked much about what he did there, although I know he was a paratrooper and dropped into the Chosen (spelling here).

I know he jumped test chutes in Alaska upon his return from Korea, got injured and received a pin in his knee. When told he would be infantry only and never jump again he decided not to re-enlist when his tour of duty was up.

Would love to hear from any buddies he had or copies of pictures that might include my Dad. We have some picts and my brother inheritted his decorations but we do not know much of that part of his past.

Thanks
Tom

Comments: Bobby Schuhmann is my husband. He passed away 6/95 (brain tumor). I would like to have more information about where his units served for our family and his grandchildren. He told me very little of his experiences in Korea. I have his separation papers but they don't tell me much of where he was while in Korea. He was at Ft. Benning,1948, 5 weeks, then Ft. Monmouth for 8 weeks, 1948. He was wounded in Korea, Dec 8th 1950 and sent to 121st Evac. I think he was returned to combat duty after that because he wasn't sent home until Nov, 1951. After one medal listed as Combat Infantry Badge Par it reads 1 SO 213 HQS 187th Air. Does that mean anything to anyone? Is there a website or can I contact someone that could help me find out where my husband served. Thank you and God Bless all who have served their country.

Comments: My uncle Robert E Seelbach was a member of the 187 airbourne unit in Korea. He never came home to the family the same. He was 100% disabled, I thought of him as a POW in his own mind. My father, Richard Seelbach, his twin brother, and myself was his Guardian the last 10 years.I first met my uncle when I was about 12 years old. My father and I used to go and visit him in the Hospital once a month. He enjoyed going to McDonalds with us. My father was in the army during Korea. I was in the Airforce from 1983 till 1992. He passed away in December of 2002. When his estate was settled the family wanted to place a memorial in memory of him and all the airbourne units in the Korean War. We have been tuned down by several organizations and locations. Please help us in are effort to pay tribute to the airborne units of the Korean War. Thank You.

Comments: My father, Captain Roy B. Gentry, Sr. proudly served with the 674 FA Bn, 187 RCT (Rakkasans) from 1950- 1952. He was a Forward Observer and later the Adjutant. He received the Silver Star and first Purple Heart Medal during the Battle of the Bulge while serving with the 5th Infantry Division in France/Germany during WW II. He also received a battle field promotion to 2ndLt at this time. My mother and I joined him at Camp Wood, Japan in 1951 and lived there for 13 months. We lived across from the officers club there and I attended first grade at the local school. I remember Major Cushing; Major Russ Felix; Capt. Babs and others. Their children were my friends. Dad returned to Korea for the Koje Do Riots. He made both jumps in Korea and received both a Bronze Star Medal and another Purple Heart there. We later rotated to Fort Campbell, Kentucky (1953) and remained there until the 11th Airborne Division Gyroscoped to Augsburg, Germany in 1955 where the 5th Infantry Division (Red Diamond) was relieved in place. We returned in 1958 to Fort Bragg, N.C. Dad died on active duty after having been selected for Major just one week prior to his planned retirement. He died at McKellar's Lodge on the base. He was a good warrior, but I was only 14 years old when he died. I later served for 20 years in the Marine Corps and was in Vietnam in 1966-1967. My mother never remarried after dad's death and was a wonderful "army" wife until her death in 15 May 2000. I loved to hear her fabulous stories about Army life and miss her terribly. I would appreciate hearing from anyone who served with my dad in Korea or Camp Wood, Japan, or any where else. It would mean alot to me at this time in my life. My brother, Hank, in Charlotte, N.C. would also appreciate it. God Bless the 187th RCT, one of the most storied units in military history! Semper Fidelis! Gunnery Sergeant R.B. Gentry, USMC, Retired

I want all who knew him and all who didn't to know that he was so proud of his brother paratroopers, his army, and his country. It was an honor to have this man in my life as the whole country is honored to have men like you to thank for the preservation of our way of life and our freedom. So to all the members of the 187th, members of the armed forces and their families. I thank you for all that you have done and continue to do. AIRBORNE!!!

Comments: My wife is Barber at Fort Gordon. She has a lot of veterans as customers and one special one, Morris Free, is retired Army E-8. He was a Medic in Korea with the 187th. He told me that his commander was Col Westmoreland. Sorta surpised me cause I asked him if that was the same as the General and he said yes. I told him I would try and find any info on the 187th in Korea. I am a Marine Vietnam Veteran and I also served a tour of duty in the Army as a Warrant Officer flying OH-58's in AK. Thanks for any response for Morris! Semper Fi and Solider On!!!
