Comments: Hello I am searching for any information on my grandfather Rudy Ray Ruiz, he was with the 187th during the Korean War. He was very proud of his unit, and I am proud of him. I only wish my grandfather could be here today to see just how much many of his fellow RAKKASANS are still here. My grandfather passed away in 1987 of asbestos cancer, but now I am trying to gather as much information as I can to keep his memories around forever. Its just now I need some of you soldiers that knew him to help me complete my mission. To all you brave 187th soldiers I salute you all!

Comments: Hello again all,
I left a previoous message regarding my father's tour in Korea around the 1950 timeframe. I am still in the process of getting a good scan of the 1950 187th Reg yearbook, and I will be placing it online for your review, as well as preparing a PowerPoint presentation for download. I have added a page to my web site with some pics from Korea I believe, some have a few of my dad's buddies in them, but I haven't a clue to who they are. I'd appreciate any assistance that you can provide if you happen to know names of the men in the pics, and contact info if that is possible. The page can be seen at http://www.spacenut.net/morgan/index.htm if interested.
Thanks in advance!

Comments: Can anyone give me any info on the Munsan drop and the actions of the 1st Cav. Division in that regard? A Spec/5 in my outfit in Korea (E. Co., 51st Sig. Bn. near Uijongbu), 1958-59 was a veteran of the 187th ARCT, and told us that the 1st Cav. troops had shot at the dropping paratroopers and killed quite a few. A few drinks at the NCO club and if there was a guy around with the 1st Cav patch on the right sleeve, he would go ballistic and a fight would ensue. I've tried to find reference materials to this incident but they don't mention it. Could that be whitewash? Any help appreciated.Thanks.

City and State: ELGIN SC

Unit: U.S. ARMY CHAPLAIN CENTER - SCHOOL

Service or Relationship: INTERESTED PERSON

Comments: Jack R. Fuehrer, my father-in-law was born in McKeesport, PA in 1921. He had served in WW II and was in the Anzio Beach landing. After a brief break in service he answered our Nation's call to go to the ROK. He was wounded by small arms fire and rec'd the Purple Heart. I recently returned from a three year assignment in Taegu, ROK where I was able to take his daughter, Frances Jo and four of his grand kids to K-2 airfield from whence he departed for the Good Friday Jump into combat. Not sure which battalion he was with. Would like to hear from any who knew him or served with him in America's so-called "forgotten war." I'll never forget his love for his country and family. Also of interest is that on that jump was Chaplain (CPT) Robert G. Rayburn, one of three chaplains who jumped into Munsan-ni. He was the founding president of my seminary, Covenant Theological Seminary, St. Louis, MO. His first jump was without the benefit of jump school! God kept him safe that day and throughout the war.

Comments: I am looking for anyone who rememers Corporal Floyd J.Ashley Jr. of Ashtabula, Ohio. He served with HQ, 187th ABN RCT in Korea. He was killed in action on May 27th. 1951 and earned a Silver Star Medal. His Nephew gave me his Silver Star when I was a child, and I still have it today. I believe he was also wounded on March 25th, 1951 near Musan-ni. I am only able to find bits and pieces of information on the internet, and would sincerely appreciate any help you could provide.

Comments: My father is C.P.Miller. My dad made the second jump in Korea with the 187th. We are in the process of restoring two 3/4 ton Dodge M37 Weapon carriers. We would like to hear from anyone who knew him. Also need pictures of trucks with the 187th markings to aid with our restoration of these trucks. Any response is appreciated.
