Comments: I am trying to find out information about my Uncle who was declared MIA in Korea in July 1953. His name is Velton Ray McDonald. His family and many friends referred to him as "Wimp". He was supposedly killed at Pork Chop Hill. He received a Purple Heart for injury sustained there only days before his death. Any information from anyone who might have known him would be greatly appreciated.

Comments: Like everyone else, he was very young, 19, when he found himself in Korea.
He was in Ft. Benning then went on to Hawaii for (jump school ?? ).
He remembered the cold!!!!!!!
He had shrapnel wounds on his shoulders and back from a shell, or grenade, that landed in a foxhole he occupied with a couple of other guys.
I met Joe when he was a NYC Firefighter, he was 32 at the time. We married a couple of years later.
Joe was proud of his service as a paratrooper, but spoke very little of his Korea experience.
I would love to hear from any who knew this boy that grew into a very wonderful man.

Comments: Doing research on my Father that I never really knew. He was in the 11th Air Borne DIvision and the 187th Air Borne Regemental Combat Team in Korea, where he made two (2) combat jumps, and then he returned to Montana in 1952. I did not know him well since my parents were divorced at a young age. I am in the Army now and would like to close the loop on my heritage. Any information on him would be greatly appreciated.
His name at my birth was John Wolf, but his birth name was Aleck Koulalis.

I was honored to be named the Rakkasan NCO of the Year in 1993, and then departed Ft. Campbell in 1995. I retired in Oct 1997 at Ft. Knox, and am still in that local area. February 25,2001 will be the 10 year anniversary of the Rakkasans deployment into the ground war as part of Desert Storm as well as the Rakkasans anniversary date. I was curious if there were going to be any special activities at Ft. Campbell in recognition of this. I would appreciate any info you could supply me with.

living in the vicinity of Birmingham, Alabama. He stated that it is a pleasure to hear from his
“Young Soldiers.” The DZ as I recall was in Oita, near Beppu. I was told that during WWII that area was a Japanese submarine base and an airfield. I recall it to be a 10 second DZ meaning that the plane was over the zone for only ten seconds. Jumpers after this time would land in the water.
There were some drowning mishaps at this DZ. If interested, I have some old pictures of the DZ.

Bn. near Uijongbu), 1958-59 was a veteran of the 187th ARCT, and told us that the 1st Cav. troops had shot at the dropping paratroopers and killed quite a few. A few drinks at the NCO club and if there was a guy around with the 1st Cav patch on the right sleeve, he would go ballistic and a fight would ensue. I've tried to find reference materials to this incident but they don't mention it. Could that be whitewash? Any help appreciated.Thanks.

Comments: My best friend is George 'Buzzi' William Sweeny 187rct. I believe it is "B" co. He made both jumps.Id like to see him talk to at least one old friend. We've shared alot of beer and whiskey over the years. It would do his heart good to reminice with a fellow Paratrooper. He Was good friends with 'Snooky' Deal if that rings a bell. Thanks

Comments: Am looking for any of Everett C. White's friends or comrades during 50'- 51'. Collecting information for family history and would like to surprise him with info from some of his fellow Rakkasan's. After the war he joined Special Forces and after many adventures, retired as CSGM. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
