Comments: Lord knows I was there that fateful day and because we had new Platoon Leader, CO ordered me to lead the Platoon across the valley floor and up the hill in the attack...I was Sqd. Leader 3rd Squad. We were getting killed terribly atop the hill from mortar and artillery.Lt Bates,( our Executive Officer and West Point Graduate) came from the first hill to order us back. Just as every one was leaving, he got hit. I stopped two of the last few left and got them to help me get him out of the trench out of sight. It was too late then to follow the rest. The Chinks were going to be looking down our backs at any moment We had been exchanging Grenades with them. Lt. Bates was alive but incoherent. We got him down the hill which was only about 75 yards out of sight and I sent the other two for a stretcher. A short time later he died . I covered him with a few twigs from a bush so the Chinks wouldn't find him and I started trying to get back to my Squad. Anyway I finally got with two of my men and the entire Company had already gone back to MLR. Revis Nichols was covering for Bob Overton who was pulling Billy Triminal off the hill...Stretcher Bearers took Triminal and and just a few moments after giving orders to my two men to "Spread Out and pick up some distance " between us as we too headed back to MLR, a shell came in , Killed Overton and wounded me in both arms and right leg...Nick helped me get bandaged with out belt gause and helped me back to MLR . After that they flew me back to Hospital in Japan and from there I was due for Rotation and Discharge all at the same time........I will never , ever forget a moment of that day......Three of my men died.....Bob Overton, David Hallahan and Ed Gilligan..........Gilligan's younger brother had been hit and crippled for life a few months earlier.. while we were training in Japan...Why wasn't Ed sent home .....He was the only son left in that family.......Well, thats my story.....What a terrible time for us draftees who only had about 30 days left before we would be rotating.....in July

Graduted 7TH Armored Division Camp Roberts, CA Co A, 95th HTB on 22 Apr 53. His release papers show his most significant duty assignment as Co L 180th inf regt. His uniform has the patch for the 2nd Division so I am confused on in location in Korea. He would have been there during the battle of Pork Chop hill and am looking to find any information that I can. I have heard from one of his brothers that he was heavy involved in battle and that his company took significant loses. If you can help in any way please send me an email.

Comments: I served on Bloody Ridge,an outpost of Sandbag Castle, and on Outpost Charlie in the Christmas Hill Area. Our platoon leader was Lt. Bourque. I would like to get in touch with Bob McGregor, Pete Hrudrowski, and the company medic, whose last name was Markum. I would also like to hear from the 4.2 mortar forward observer who spent some time with us on Bloody Ridge. His first name was Dobie. Matt Kelsch

Comments: My grandfather, Hugh E. McConnell was a Korean War Veteran--he passed away October 12, 1990. I have old letters and little information. I know he earned a Bronze Star, and he was injured in the line of duty, something to do with a jeep, explosion, I think. I only have a few details, but I'm eager to piece together this part of my family history. My grandmother may be able to help me out some. The reason my family has so little information is he was an only child and he conceived no children biologically--for reasons related to the duty injury. He came home and married my widowed grandmother, who was 31 with two small boys. He raised them as his own and I was his only grandchild. You can imagine how I was spoiled. With a four-year-old of my own, I would like to be able to tell my son more about the man who raised me. Some of the letters were lost before I received what was left--and I am tracking down others who knew him. Right now, I know he planned to come home around January/February 1953 by way of Japan. In any direction you could send me would be greatly appreciated. I've just begun this search. Sincerely, Amy Hallman

Comments: Any information about my dad, Charles E Corbello, would be greatly appreciated. He recently passed away from lung cancer. Some have told us it could be related to gases used in the war and to the asbestos coated ships ya'll travelled in. Daddy didn't talk much about the war and didn't consider himself a hero. He earned a purple heart, was wounded at Heartbreak Ridge, I don't remember if he ever said which company he was in. Any information about the war would help me and my kids understand why he kept it to himself.
