Comments: I am looking for information about my father's service in Korea. He was stationed with the 180th Headquarters Co. I believe that he may have been a platoon sgt. I would like to hear from anyone who knew him there and also from anyone who knows about battles the 180th was involved in. Both he and Mom are recently deceased. When my sister and I cleared the estate we found a Chinese rifle dated 1934 with the words #1Killer and a skull and crossbones painted in red on the stock. I am told by a military historian that it was probably given to Dad by his platoon as a commemorative of his actions in some battle. I would especially like to hear from anyone who might remember this event and could tell me the story about how Dad got the rifle.

His ammo man was Art Jarrow of Louisianna. My dad is retired in Vermont and in good health. I have spoken to him about the war on several occasions and although his memeories are fading he still remembers some people, places and battles. Dad has recently gotten on-line and his e-mail is daltonhl@sover.net He has some pictures of his base and his position, along with people, parades and various other war related things. He has told me he would like to find out about Mr. Jarrow and some of his other comrades. I will speak to him again and try to get more info, perhaps he can help someone else in thier search. Comments: Comments: I am looking for any information about my father, Jack Parrish Justice, and his service in Korea. Dad entered the service on Nov 21, 1951 at Canton, Ohio. Dad lived in Beach City, Ohio before his service started. He was released from service on Oct 28, 1953. As best as we can tell he was in the 8th army, Company I 180th Infantry. Like many vets, Dad did not talk about the war for many years and then we had only a few conversations about the war. Dad was on the line foe a number of engagements, earning 3 bronze stars. He did speak about being trapped behind enemy lines for 5 days before making it back to our lines. He had a patch on his jacket for 45th Thunderbirds. I know that after his time on the front line he was in the hospital for pneumonia and later was operating train engines. If you knew my father or have any information, please contact me. It means a great deal to my brothers and me. Jack P Justice Jr

However, he has recently passed (July 1,2002), and I would really like to know more about him as a soldier. My family and I are really missing him, and his past is a big hole, and we would like to fill it in. I know that he stayed in the Scofield Barrucks with an Elroy Halgesen, a Joseph Hartman, a Charles Hatcher, and a John Hohman. I also have a picture of him with an Eldon Elthon from Faribault, Minnesota at Sandbag Castle. If anyone has any information that may be helpful it would be greatly appreciated. Comments: My father, James B. Strickland, of Okemah, Oklahoma served in Korea. We didn't talk about his experiences much, at least not the bad ones. I remember once asking the dumb question that many children ask their fathers...Did you shoot anybody? He just said that he wasn't sure but he was sure trying to. I have a few pictures of him and some buddies in Korea. One shows him on the steps of a bunker with a bandage over one eye. I asked him what happened and he said that some shooting started and he knocked himself out on the crossbeam of the bunker hurrying to get to shelter. Said he was out cold the whole firefight. He thought it was pretty funny.

Dad passed away in 1980 at the young age of 48 of heart failure. I hope somebody out there remembers him. I know he was proud of his unit and having served. Good luck to all Vets.

Looking for real stories for final term paper to complete my degree and possibly turn into a booklet to sell in the museum giftshop. Your stories are facinating and need to be preserved in the history of our beloved country. Happy 4th and God Bless.

Comments: After 50 years of attempting to forget, my father James L. Hill Jr, known by his middle name Larry (Pvt-2 Larry Hill in Korea)of Albany, NY, is trying to make peace with his memories - especially those of June, 1952, when he, like many others, received the Purple Heart.

My father is still healthy and very active.

Originally with the 1st Cavalry Division during 1951, he was transferred to Company E of the 180th as an artillery FO in December 1951 when the 45th Division replaced the 1st Cavalry which then began redeploying to Hokkaido, Japan.

Anyone who may recall serving with my father may contact him at his e-mail address at laba@pocketmail.com.

His e-mail can not accept attachments so if you have photos or rosters, please send them to me at the e-mail address above and I will forward them on to him.

Thanks to all of you for having served.

I have been concentrating on 1st Bn 179th and 2nd Bn 180th, but want stories from anyone of any rank anywhere in Korea.

Guys, Fellow Dogfaces, Thunderbirds, and Friends of Thunderbirds,

I am trying to write, or rather collect, a history of Outpost Queen. I sent an elaborate letter to former members of the First Battalion of the 179th Infantry. Mostly I have received notes saying, “It was Hell.”

Yeah, I know it was hell. I was there. Now I am working the Second Battalion of 180th. Keeping it simple, I want to know WHY it was Hell. What is YOUR story? What did YOU do? How did YOU feel about the shelling, short rounds, patrols, filth, C-rations, and having a swarm of Chinese running at and/or over you?

I know you have stories. I wrote 20 pages of my own experience on Outpost Queen, and I know the 180th had it rougher than we did. Wayne Pelkey of Fox Company has sent me the only story about the 180th I have received so far. I especially would like stories from the survivors of Easy Company. But it doesn’t have to be all blood and thunder. One of the better stories I have collected was about two farm boys attempt to use instant coffee. Another was about an artillery battery’s pet chicken. In return for your story (or any request) I will send mines to anyone who wants to read it.

Hoping for some good stuff,

Hank Nicol, formerly of Baker 179th
