17th Infantry Regiment in Korean War documentary

Comments: After graduating from BIOC and the Army Ranger School in March 1956, as a 2nd Lt., I was assigned to the 17th Infantry Regt., George Company, as a Rifle Platoon Leader. I was subsequently assigned as Regt'l Asst. S-1, Courts & Boards Officer, after getting two successive acquittals in Special Courts Martial, by the CO, Col. Glenn Gardner, under Maj. Wolfinger, the then S-1.

As many of you may already know, I have been working on a video documentary of the 17th Infantry in the Korean War since October 2005, having announced same at the 2005 reunion of the 17th Infantry Assn. in Columbus, GA. Much of my research and video clips can be seen at my website at www.legaleagleproductions.com which includes streaming video clips, stories and photographs. My wife and I have done numerous interviews around the country of 17th Infantry Korean War vets, having just gathered much material at the Army War Museum in Carlisle, PA.

We are looking for veterans of the Korean War from the 17th who wish to tell their story on camera to preserve it for their children and grandchildren. This is a non-commercial venture, and is being done to preserve the history of the regiment in Korea for posterity.

We are also looking for any photographs and/or film taken during the Korean War to be used in the project. The project is expected to take upwards of two years, and the documentary will have a preliminary screening at the 2006 reunion of the 17th Infantry Association in Colorado Springs, CO, this coming Setember; and will likely have its world premiere at the 2007 reunion of the Association.

Iron Triangle

Comments: Looking for any information IRT my grandfather who served during the Korean War with the 17th Buffalo regiment. I have his Purple Heart and a newspaper article that cites action at the Iron Triangle. His name was Samuel James Hall and he was from Mingo, Ohio. Comments: Looking for men who may have been in "I" company on Alligator Jaws in July, 1953. I was wounded by a booby trap while dismantling old bunkers, but the army records center cannot find a record of it. It may have been destroyed in the fire.

Warren T. Bennett, Cpl

Comments: All I know is that my uncle, Warren T. Bennett was in the 7th Inf. Div. I don't know which battln, regiment, etc. I attended his funeral back in July of 2001 and just got back from his wife's funeral which was this past Monday, May 22nd in Memphia, TN. I was given custody of my uncle's Army uniform jacket with all insiginias attached inlcuding his 7th Inf. Division patch, brass infantry lapel pins, and a pin on each shoulder of a badger-like animal with the words "Pro Patria" on them. Would love to know more about my uncle to allow me to tell his story to my children and to my tour groups. I am a DC tour guide who does trips for student groups from 8th - 12th grade. 99% of these students are totally clueless about the Korean War and I take that opportunity to tell them about it. If anyone of you knew my uncle, please give me a shout.

Landed in Inchon July 4th 1953.Sent to HILL 200 the morning of 7 July. Garrett ended up with my father on this hill by themselves for 2 days without any help! All of these men were involved with defending HILL 200. 7TH INFANTRY 17TH DIVISION COMBAT ENGINEER

Comments: My father passed away on Oct 15th 2005. I am looking for anyone who might have served with him. Would like to read stories about his time served in Korean war. He was in full 3 1/2 yrs. Also am looking for pictures of him if at all possible. I know he was stung by Man of War jellyfish and was wounded by shrapnel in the leg(?) I also would like to know the medals that are received during this period. I really miss my dad and this is all I know about his service time. I do know he rode in a jeep with a man who he reconized yrs later that had an article wrote about him saving a bunch of soldiers lives. It was in stars and stripes mag. LOOKING FOR INFO

Comments: I am looking for information on my grandfather who passed away just over a year ago. I believe that he was in the 17 infantry regiment in the Korean War. He served in the army from 1951 to 1954. His name is Edward Earnest Howard. He came home with a handful of medals, yet he never opened up to anyone about how he achieved them. I have no other information on where he served or with who, but I would like to know how he earned all of these medals. He was the only father I knew and it means a lot to find out more about him in his army days.

POSITION OVERRUN ON 7 OCT 1952

Comments: I am trying to find out information on what happen on 7 Oct 1952 when a position was overrun by the Chicoms and only a few survivors were found on the hill the next day, one of them was my dad: Cpl Edward Sanderson who was evacuated to Japan and later was separated for disability. 17th Infantry Coin Issued

Keywords: Trying to find out if anyone has known knowledge of 17th Infantry issuing "coins" to any of their troops. Have read where a COL "Buffalo Bill" Quin had them made during the Korean War. Coin has a picture of a buffalo on one side and 1950 1952 KOREA on the other side. Trying to get actual stories on these coins and if anyone knows where I might be able to get one of these original coins.

Looking for info on my Dad's outfit

Comments: I'm looking for any stories, memories of my Dad's outfit. His name is Malburne Williams, from Michigan. He served with the 17th Regiment, 7th Division. He was in King Company, 2nd Platoon, 2nd Squad. He was on Jane Russel Hill with heavy casualties, then later another hill he doesn't remember, where they were relieved by Ethopian troops, and then in the second battle of Pork Chop. He carried a BAR, and has no idea what happened to his helper, an African-american guy. He also recalls seeing a movie about Pork Chop Hill, (not the one with Gregory Peck). He is now a quadraplegic as a result of a hunting accident in 1988. Went through two fierce battles figting at night hand to hand, and was uninjured through all of that.
