KOREA WAR, 1ST CALVERY LANDING FROM L.S.T 898 ON JULY 24TH,1950 |
| ROYALL K. (KEN) BROWN wrote on September 28, 2001 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: UNITED NATIONS VETERAN - KOREA Comments: Am looking for any 1st. Calvery solder who was on the beach landing in Korea on July 24,1950. I was 18 years old at the time and was an able body seaman in the deck dept. on L.S.T. 898 which at the time was run by civilian crews for Military Sea Transportation Services. "M.S.T.S". When we dropped the troops off at 5:30 AM on July 24,1950 we could see and hear fighting in the hills which were out of sight from our beached ship. No one would tell us what Korean parlell we were near and what the mission was. This beach landing was two months before the McAuther Inchon landing operation. I need to know what area in Korea we were in and if the troops we dropped off survived. We latter were told all the tanks and troops we dropped off was ambushed and killed or taken prisnors. I am looking for a 1st. Calvery solder they called Big Bear because he was from Big Bear Lake California. We became friends and would like to know if he survived the war. Keywords: Ist.
