Comments: Hi, my dad (Harrison L. Reigle) served with a man named Ruel A Rogers in the 16th Recon Company, 1st Calvary Division in Korea. We have tried many searches prior but have given up. I decided to look again and found this site. My brother is named after him. I believe last we heard after Korea, he was stationed at Ft Hood, in Texas. Anyone who knows about him, please email me. (my dad doesn't have email or like computers!) Thanks, Ann

Comments: Am looking for any 1st. Calvery solder who was on the beach landing in Korea on July 24,1950. I was 18 years old at the time and was an able body seaman in the deck dept. on L.S.T. 898 which at the time was run by civilian crews for Military Sea Transportation Services. "M.S.T.S". When we dropped the troops off at 5:30 AM on July 24,1950 we could see and hear fighting in the hills which were out of sight from our beached ship. No one would tell us what Korean parlell we were near and what the mission was. This beach landing was two months before the McAuther Inchon landing operation. I need to know what area in Korea we were in and if the troops we dropped off survived. We latter were told all the tanks and troops we dropped off was ambushed and killed or taken prisnors. I am looking for a 1st. Calvery solder they called Big Bear because he was from Big Bear Lake California. We became friends and would like to know if he survived the war.

Richard Wilson, My Father In Law

On Wed, 30 Jul 1997

My father in-law served with the 1 st. Cav. 16 th. Recon during the
Korean war. His name is Richard Wilson.

He spoke of an old friend in his unit named Donald Boffman. As a veteran
yourself, you know of the bond we have from expericences shared in
combat.

I made it my mission to try and unite them. I have hit a brick wall.

My father in-law states Boffman was a police officer in Kalamazoo,
Michigan before the war. I am a police officer in Fairmont, West
Virginia and have used every means available to me to locate Boffman and
have been unsuccesful.

My father in-law is of sound mind, but I have been wondering if the last
name could be wrong..ie.,Coffman or other similar sounding names.

I think he is probably correct though. I would apperciate anything you
could do to help me unite these two.

In advance I thank you
Russ Talerico.

Finding men

Dear Mr. Barker

I am trying to locate Charles Erik or Eric (orginally from the Altoona,
Pa. area.) and Lt. Elsworth P. Lauer "Peaches" (orginally from the
Chicago).

These men served with my father in Korea from 1950-1951. Also would be
interested in anyone else who served in the 16th Recon. in Korea. There
was an short history of the company that was listed in the Army's
offical history of the War, but I have been unable to locate it through
the Army or the National Archives. I wonder if anyone could put me in
touch with Roy Appleman the author of "South to the Naktong, North to
the Yalu". It was not found in his background papers for the book and I
wonder if he might know of where the units history might be located.

Sincerely Yours

Earl L. Willoughby, Jr. jrwilobe@ecsis.net

contd:
Dear Ted,

The 16th Recon. was attached to the 1st Cavalry Division Headquarters,
though they were attached to the 7th Cavalry Regiment while on the
Pusan Perimeter.

They had lost their vehicles and were attached to the 7th Cav. as
infantry for a couple of months, before going back in action as a full
fledged Recon. outfit.

The 16th Recon. is a decendant of the 302nd Recon. which was the 1st
Cavalry Division's Recon. Company during the war in the Pacific. They
became the 16th while in Japan, about one year before they were
deployed in Korea.
