163RD MEDICAL BATTALION REMEMBERED |
| ERVIN MCLAUCHLAN wrote on July 27, 2002 CITY AND STATE: GRAND RAPIDS MI UNIT: 544TH GENERAL DISPENSARY SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I arrived in Korea on Jan 1, l953. I passed through the Btn. headquarters at Wonju and I was assigned to the 544th which was located in Chunchon. My buddy, J.D. Merrill was also sent to the 544th. JD and I went through basic, school at Ft. Sam and into the 544th together. He was from Red Level, Alabama and a guy couldn.t have a better friend. The 544th was located across the road from the airfield in Chunchon, but they had their own medical outfit. We took care of truck, quartermaster and other outfits as well as getting some casualties from the front, usually be helicopter. It was a small outfit but the officers were all doctors and fine men as were the enlisted personnel. Unfortunately I haven't stayed in touch with anyone from the unit. Keywords: |

| MILTON AND LOVELLA SCHRADER wrote on August 5, 2001 CITY AND STATE: ALEXANDRIA SD UNIT: 59TH SIGNAL SUPPORT COMPANY SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN - KOREA Comments: I was stationed at the 34th medical batallion under the 59th signal support company supplying telephone and radio communications. The 34th moved to the States while I was there in 1953. It was replaced by the 163rd Medical Batallion. My MOS was 1187 carrier telephone or sometimes called a repeaterman. Our unit was called Novocain switch. Medical men ran the switch board and I serviced the equipment. Anyone remember the Novocain signal tent? The location was near an electric power dam North of chunchon Korea. Keywords: 163rd Medical Batallion, 34th Medical Batallion, 59th signal support company. |

HQ DETACHMENT |
| JOE A. WILKES wrote on November 10, 1999 CITY AND STATE: COLUMBIA SC UNIT: 163RD MEDICAL BATTALION (SEP) SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY Comments: I would like to find rosters of personnel-- members of the 163rd Medical Battalion (Sep) who served between 1 Jan 1952 and 30 Jun 1953. Particularly interested in members of Hedquarters Detachment stationed at Wonju, Korea. The outfit that I belonged to was the Headquarters Detachment of the 163rd Medical Battalion (Sep.) It was a separate battalion under the 8th US Army, and our detachment was stationed at Wonju, Korea. The Battalion had a number of medical units (some MASH units, I think) located in various parts of Korea. As an aside, I have been searching for some of my friends from this era, and have located and talked to 12 members, and confirmed death of 3. Keywords: |
