He froze his feet in a river crossing, had the hair burned off the back of his head by a flare, and broke his leg while being flanked by the enemy as a Forward Observer. He spoke fondly of a Major in his company but I can't remember the name. Also spent time in Hokkaido hospital and as a prison of war guard there. Dad died in june 1991, he never spoke much of the war, would love to talk to anyone that served with him. 40+ guys in his battery are from Hominy, OK. Pryor served with the 45th ID, 160th FA Bty B from July 18, 1951 to December 1951 at Camp Crawford / Camp Chitose, Sapporo, Hokkaido, Japan. He was then stationed in Korea in Chorwon from January 11, 1952 till mid August 1952. He was a forward artillery observer. He attended basic training at Camp Polk LA from February 8, 1951 till May 26, 1951. Dad died June 19th, 2008 from Leukemia. He was from Philadelphia, PA. I am putting together a biography for my childern and would like to hear from his colleagues and commanders. Any stories or anecdotes would be appreciated. He was in Korea for the final year or year and a half of the war. Initially he worked on the ground and then flew in a spotter plan earning 2 air medals. | FRANK BOEHM wrote on January 12, 1999 CITY AND STATE: LEXINGTON VA UNIT: 160TH FA BATTALION SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: Comments: I was with the 160th from about May 1952 until March 1953, serving as forward observer, Battalion liaison officer, Regimental liaison officer, and finally as CO of Battery"C". I am a graduate of the Virginia Military Institute and now live in VMI's town with many alumni. While in Korea my battalion commander was Lt Col. Waters and his exec was Major Nolte.
