SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I was wondering if anyone had pictures of a Country Music Band I was a Member of for several month in 1960, in Powanni Korea. We called ouraselves the "Rice Paddy Daddies" and we played in the local and surrounding camp NCO and EM clubs as well and the infamious Arridang(Arridong Club) that was broken down and removed from the Pobwanni area sometimes in late 1960,and rebuilt in another village. Members of the band were, Carlos Gentry. Earl Wisor. Don Rich from the Buck Owens Band fame and a young 2LT from the 23rd Trans that I do not remember the name, but was a protige of Chet Atkins. I played Bass and Rhythm Guitar and sang vocals with Earl and Carlos. There were lots of pwople taking picture, in the Clubs and well as in that Korean club. I sure would like to find one. Mamasan and her girls would rattle up to our tanks in the middle of nowhere in the middle of the night and sell us Soju and Portaju grape wine! Anyone who sunk some pipe without a love-glove I'd see in the dispensary the following Monday for clap. I enjoyed the people as they were simple and trusting. The Ugly American came out in allot of GIs and it disgusted me. YongJuGol looks the same yet a little busier than I remember. I remember the KNPs beating the hell out of the 'mountain woman' who had no home and was always scavenging for food in the garbage, ... and the poor kids who were shunned because they were 1/2 Korean and 1/2 God knows what else. AUGUSTINE FL UNIT: 8055 MASH (MOTHER) 15 MED BAT, 7TH CAV MED BAT, 11 SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: RE: 15th Med BAT Can you help me please.? I need info before March 1st 2003, my mother's birthday. Please be aware that there will be a final MASH reunion in Mesa, AZ in May 2003. My Mother, Mary-Frances Haley, was a Captain, Regular Army nurse anesthetist 1950-52. Her unit was the 8055, foremost to the 39th parallel. A rather beautiful (black hair, green eyed) woman, her home was Philadelphia. She married on R and R at the chapel at Tokyo General Hospital to Major John W. Riley, an Administrative Officer from the Med. Company 7th Calvary.FECOM, formerly with 118th Surgical Hospital FECOM. There are only only medical personnel names that I recall from childhood listening to the few stories my mother ever told (and can fit to a photo). One is a Lieutentant Cooley, who I believe may have been a dental surgeon, but that is not positive information, though he certainly was a physican.Another physican, who may have been a Light Col was named Easterday. Two commanders were a Col Gould, whose first name may be "purdue" (or that may be a nickname) and Hollerman, whose first name may be Jermiah. I also can identify a pilot, named Harvey Fulleflove (spelling uncertain), who used the name Harvey Fuller, was nicknamed "Speed" and was from Texas: I believe he ran medevac and supplies. I know he was Airforce; I am not sure if he was a helicopter pilot. I would like to find any of them and any others. I have quite a few photos of MASH, not just of the surgery, but of quirky and daily life which she took. She was a fatastic photographer. These pictures certainly put one clearly into a time, place, and experience. I would like to connect and gather more info as a present for her 83rd birthday, March 1st. I would appreciate memories about her from anyone who knew her, as well as information about her co-workers and friends, living or dead. Thanks for any help you can offer. I love my mother very much, and have always been very proud of her. Because of her example, I became an M.D. PhD, at a time when women in my field were still rather rare. Because of her example, my father's, and yours, I have always endeavored to persist, regardless of obstacles. Wishing you well. Thanks. | DOUG CHARLES wrote on January 6, 2001 CITY AND STATE: UNIT: SERVICE OR RELATIONSHIP: INTERESTED PERSON Comments: I am a researcher and collector of uniforms. I have a 1st Cav Div, 15th Medical Bn uniform that also bears the insignia of the Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps. It belonged to a captain, but is unnamed. It is a summer uniform with several Japanese laundry marks inside. I would be very interested in any information regarding the relationship of these two units, and any possible information on the man who wore it Keywords: Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps, 15th Medical Bn |
