Comments: Looking for anyone who served with my father during the Korean War during the time period of 52-53. His name was Willie J. Barron and he was with the 3rd Inf Div, 15th Inf Regt. I don't know the exact Battalion or Company. To all of the Korean War veterans you truly great people. I take my hat off to all of you that served in this brutal war.

Shaun Jordan wrote on 2004-02-05 10:31:48.0

Comments: First of all, thank you to all of you who have helped!! My great uncle PFC Charles T. Jordan, Jr. was a member of 2nd Battalion, B Company. His military occupation is listed as (1745) Light Weapons Infantry Leader. His KIA date is 1953-07-16. This date coincides with the Kumsong River Salient. I have since tried to obtain his military records with the help of my grandfather, Charlie's brother, and I was informed that they were destroyed by fire some 20 years ago. Hopefully this info helps me and you figure out more information on my great uncle.

Thanks again!!! Shaun Jordan

Comments: I am writing this for my dad, Carl W. Siegel. He has pancreatic cancer and only has a couple of months. He is 84 yrs. old and this past year is the first time he really started talking about the war. He doesn't have a lot of time left and is starting to get confused. But if anyone out there remembers him, he'd be thrilled to get a card or a quick note from you saying you remember him. He is deaf in one ear (war injury) so phone calls are kind of difficult. He feels forgotten right now so any rememberence would really up lift his spirts.

He was in WWII:5th Army(Tech 5). Hq Battery 4321 AAA AW Battalion. Campaigns: Tunisian, Naples Foggia, Rome Arno, No. Appenines, Po Valley. He served from 1942-45

He was also in the Korean War: 3rd Div. 15th Inf. Co.A (Able) 1st Bn. He was a M/SG. He served from 1950-54 and then joined the Reserves until 1963.

He remembers he was a replacement for SG. Mills and he remembers doing patrol with a LT. Cobb along the Imgem(?)River.

Other names he recalls are Rocko from Brooklyn, Johnny Albright and Seth Huntley(?) from Askansas. I think they are from WWII.

He also remembers a guy named Nick from the Reserves who would stop by the house to visit and always had a handful of candy for us kids. At that time we lived in Hometown, IL.

Any acknowledgment of him would be greatly appreciated. Thank you you all.

His daughter,

Mariellen Spiros 847/963-1833

Recognition for Veterans

Column_1_Spacer Column_2_Spacer
John M. Bennett wrote on 2003-10-02 15:15:15.0

Comments: Fellow Veterans

My father John Madison Bennett is a veteran of WWII and I am a veteran of the Viet Nam era, and the nephew of a Congressional Medal of Honor recipient, posthumously, of the Korean War. My uncle PFC EMORY L. BENNETT was a member of COMPANY B, 15th INFANTRY REGIMENT, 3rd INFANTRY DIVISION, and was killed near Sobangsan, Korea on June 24, 1951, while providing a one man cover fire so his company could effect an orderly with-drawl. The Emory L. Bennett Foundation Inc. was formed on Sept. 25, 2002 by family members, classmates, and friends of Emory to place a statue in his honor in the New Riverfront Park in Cocoa, Fl, and to remember ALL veterans of all wars or conflicts. Cocoa currently has no downtown recognition for veterans, it’s about time. June 24th 2003, was 52 years since Emory was killed, now is the time to erect a lasting memorial in Emory’s home town to him and All veterans. Emory lived in Brevard County for 15 years before he enlisted in the Army. The park where the statue will be located is less than a block from where he lived most of his childhood. A life size statue, base and memorial plaques will cost in the neighborhood of $100,000.00. This is no small amount to be sure, but neither is the sacrifice that our veterans have made for all of us, as you well know, so we can enjoy the freedom of our day-to-day lives. In closing we are asking for your donations to this worthy cause, as it is the right thing to do. When asked, as you recall, our veterans did the right thing no matter what the cost, including sacrificing their life. All contributions are tax exempt to this memorial, Cocoa’s only downtown open-air veteran’s recognition. Thank you for your monetary support. Please visit our web page listed below for more information and photos.

Sincerely, John Michael Bennett Treasurer of Emory L. Bennett Foundation Inc. P. O. Box 560803 Rockledge, FL 32956-0803 Email to emorylbennett@bellsouth.net http.www.home.bellsouth.net/p/s/community.dll?ep=16&ext=1&groupid=82135&ck=

Also, my dad was removed as a truck driver and made a cook. He told me that he cooked for the Battlion commanders, exclusively.

Comments: My Dad, Leon Beusse, went in 11 Jan 52 at the age of 20 and sailed Korea from San Fran in the spring. He is still alive and well as of this writing. He doesn't (won't) talk much about his tour, but I'm sure he would like to contact former comrades. At one point, he was positioned at an outpost around 38th parallel, I think. He has mentioned Ch'orwon and the "Iron Triangle", or something like this. Late in '53 (again, I think this is accurate) he was detached to 8th Army headquarters in Seoul as an MP.

If anyone out there knew my Dad and/or where E company was during this period (and any details, such as location, action they saw, etc.), PLEASE, PLEASE E-MAIL ME. I think more closure for him would be great and healthy. Any information on reunions, available rosters, books, etc, would be appreciated as well.

Greatly appreciated and I wait for the day that Korean vets gain the recognition and appreciation they deserve,

Len Beusse (son)

Comments: Anyone remember Chorwon Valley,Jackson Heights, Kelly? After that I was sent to the 24th. Divi-sion in Japan. From there we were shipped to Chedu-do to guard the POW until they were taken back to North Korea. I still remember some names and faces.

I would like to hear from some of those guys who spent that long time in cold Korea. GOD BLESS AMERICA.

Do you remember James Ernest Ranard?

ERNEST (RUSS) Ranard wrote on 2002-10-01 19:37:09.0

Comments: My father was wounded by a mortar shell on July 31, 1952 in North Korea. He died twenty years later when a piece of shrapnel he received in that battle finally worked its way out of his heart and caused a massive coronary. My father was a very sensitive man and could never bring himself to talk about his experiences in Korea. It would help me to have a deeper understanding of the father I loved and lost if anyone could provide me with anecdotes/memories of my father or the conditions he might have faced in Korea.

Thank you to all of our Korean vets!
