Comments: My father, Gary W Kranz served in the Korean War. He was WIA at Heartbreak Ridge where he served as a forward observer. I was pleased to find his name listed on your database. I am searching for records which may render an account of his incident. Any assistance of course, would be greatly appreciated.

I was drafted for 21 months Sept 3,1950 in Houston and assigned to the
45th Inf. Div,158th FABn, Hq Btry. Took special training and acted as
cadre to the next group coming in to bring the unit up to full strength
at Camp Polk La. After Basic we went to Sasebo Japan for advanced
training then to So. Korea and relieved the 24th Inf Div.
I was in the Laision section and supported the forward observers for the
179th, 2nd Bn, Co's A-B& C.
I turned down 2 field grade promotions and returned home after 23 months
as Staff Sgt and was assigned to a control center at Beaumont Texas as a
reserve. Later I transferred to the 315th combat engineers in Houston
and spent a total of 9 years and received an honorable as E-7 Master Sgt.
The first year at summer camp I went as Supply Sgt, the next 4 years as
First Sgt and the remainder as Sgt Major.
My civilian job became so demanding I had to make a choice so I
dropped out of the Military and have had many second thoughts because I
loved the Army. I am now retired from So Western Bell and would like to
hear from my old buddies I served with in Korea.
