14TH EOD REMEMBERED |
| TODD KRUEGER wrote on February 14, 2012 City and State: Unit: 14TH E.O.D. DET. Service or Relationship: ARMY VETERAN Comments: I came across your website by accident and felt the need to let others know the final chapter of the 14th EOD. I was the one of last of 4 men in the 14th which was retired itself following the end of Desert Shield, Desert Storm, and Restore Hope. The 14th EOD was the single longest actively deployed EOD unit in the Gulf War and completed the tour with only 11 personal and no reliefs. Working 18 hour days, 7 days a week. We were placed ahead of the M-1 Tanks, in Chevy Blazers by a command structure that had no idea how to utilize a Corp asset. With the usual EOD fineness, the writing 'The Expendables' was clearly visible across the windshield as the 14th EOD handled all the normal explosives incidents, IEDs, munition demilitarizations, and, adding to the mix, the oil well fires. The unit was disbanded along with the 543rd EOD BN. Its last serviceable usable equipment was handed out to the remaining active EOD units under the 542nd EOD. Its home, Ft.Devens, was handed the same fate. Its heart, the EOD soldiers of the past present, and future, will always be remembered by me and, hopefully, by all of you as well. Feel free to send comments or memories to toddkrueger10@aol.com Keywords: EOD E.O.D. 14th EOD Desert Storm Desert Shield Restore Hope Ft. Devens |
