Comments: Im just looking for anyone who might have remembered my father. He was from Kinston NC. He passed away in Feb. 1986. I am very lucky to still have alot of his army records and photos. My father was transported to Korea on the US Naval Ship Marine Phoenix and landed in Inchon. He never talked much about his time in Korea but he was very proud to have served his country. He hated seeing the straving children in that country. When he was discharged he was a CPl (T)He was a BAR gunner. God bless all those who served in that conflict.

Comments: I am searching for any information on my Father. He was a Pfc. while in Korea. I have letters sent to him by my Grandmother at: "14th Infantry Reg. Co. C, A.P.O. 25 c/o P.M. in San Francisco". I am assuming this how she got letters to him while he was in Korea. he was on the .50 cal. machine gun with a "scope" on it. Pictures of him and group photos in Korea are posted on the 14th's website. Some names that I found on some of the pictures he had from Korea are: Jack McCartney from Brooklyn, N.Y.; Fred Ledford, Everett Hill, Cpl E.C. "Sonny" Kelley. If anyone has information on these people or knew my father please e-mail me. My father died when I was ten, he was 35. My son is now twenty, and I want him to know his Grandfather. If anybody remembers his name or recognizes anyone in the photos, I would appreciate it if you would contact me. I will share any info I have. Thanks, David

Michael Stevens wrote on 2006-07-24 12:32:43.0
Comments: Looking for anyone who knew my grandfather Elmer Steger, a 40-year US Army veteran (WWI, WWII, and Korea) who according to his final discharge papers was honorably discharged June 9, 1955 as Battalion Sergeant Major of the 3rd Battalion, 14th Infantry Regiment, 25th Division.
I (we the family) know very very little about his military career, but know he served in Africa, Sicily, all over Europe & Germany before being sent to the Pacific and the Philippines with MacArthur, and finally in Japan, before going to Korea, but this is all verbal history he relayed to family. I have been unable to verify much of it...
Anyone having ANY KIND of information or pictures or first hand knowledge of places he might have served, units and battalions and combat actions...I would ask you to please contact me to help me try to complete a picture dearly lacking one with such a long military history.

Comments: Hi, my father, Arthur Cuddy, served with Co H, 14th Inf. REGT. I don't have exact dates, and he is no longer with us, but his DD214 shows he was discharged from the Army on Feb. 23, 1954 and has 1 year, 2 months and 4 days overseas, all of which were spent in Korea. Prior to shipping out, his primary training at Fort Benning was as a Heavy Weapons Infantry Leader. (The Army identified things a little differently during my 26 years.) I would appreciate any information about my father's time in Korea, and his unit, specifically Co. H. Feel free to contact me at thom.cuddy@us.army.mil

Comments: I discovered today that my friend Raymond Rautiala of Chicago, Illinois had passed away On December 19, 2005. Ray was instrumental in securing a memorial for the Korean War Veterans in Quincy Massachusetts, his home town. He is survived by 3 sisters all of the Quincy Area and Many far away friends he contacted by email. I spoke to Helvi Rautiala his sister of Quincy Ma.this morning and she told me the funeral for Ray will be a private one, family only. What a shame since Ray was so well known all over the USA and was such a patriotic guy. I feel it would have been fitting to include all his friends from years back all the families of men he never forget. To Ray I say this..."Goodbye you old barnstormer. May the wings of Eagles lift you so high that all you can see are your loved ones in Heaven."

Any one out there that can help me I would appreciate it. I am trying to get some things together to give him for Christmas. But knowing myself I may not keep it quite till them. Comments: I was assigned to Regt Supply from Dec 50 when the 34th RCt was reactivated at Camp Zama, Japan. After getting personnel the Regt moved up to Camp Fuji for advanced training. In Aug 51 the Regt went by ship and landed at Inchon and went to a staging area while waiting for all it's equipment to arrive. Shortly thereafter the Regt was redesignated the 14th Inf Regt, 25th Div and replaced the 24th Inf Regt on line in the Kumwha valley by hill 1062. I later ran a POW collection point and rotated back to the states due to point accumulation in Nov 51.

Comments: Hello,
IÂ’m trying to find out about when the 14 infantry was left on the line with the 2nd while the 25th rotated back. My Uncle Donald Turner was killed on November 4, 1951.
A letter sent to my grand parents spoke of Donald manning twin 50Â’s and they were over run when Donald couldnÂ’t raise the gun high enough to shoot over the bodies of the Chinese. It also told of the Chinese wrapping their bodies with ace bandage material so that even when they were hit, it took 4 or 5 rounds to bring them down. This is what makes me thing that perhaps the 2nd may have some record.
http://www.2id.org/2idhistory2.htm “The massive relief once again was completed without mishap and the 2d Division assumed control on 20 December. The tactical situation saw the Division manning a four-regiment front, the 25th Division having left its 14th Regiment occupying one of the sectors. With the extra regiment, the Division was spread across a 22,000-meter line with only two infantry battalions and the 72d Tank Battalion in division reserve.”
“The 14th Regiment reverted to the control of its parent division on 29 January, necessitating an extension of boundaries to occupy the wide frontage with three regiments instead of four.”
“One battalion remained from the 25th Div Arty to provide direct support for the 14th Infantry Regiment, which became attached to the 2d Division.”

Any information on the battle fought that day would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you

I have some Korean famlies in my parish and they would like to know what part of Korea I served in. As you can see I remember some military names but cannot remember local names. Can anyone jog my old memory?

He tells me some of the stories of his time on the 38th par., but has a hard time remembering any names of the men off the top of his head. Unfortunantly, the names he does remember well, I have forgotten, and keep for getting to ask him what the are. If anyone can provide me with information that I can share with my father, I'm sure he would like that very much. Thank you.

Comments: My father was K.I.A. September 01, 1950. I am trying to find information about his military. I have a final report from the war department that states he was with Co "C" 14th Infantry...it does not state what Regiment. I also have information that states he was with "I" Co. 38th Regiment 2nd Infantry Division. He was also in WW2 served in the Central Burma; India Burma. He was with Merrill's Marauders. I did not start my search until 2001. When I was young I always "sensed" Mom did not want to talk about my father. I was adopted when I was nine. Mom remarried about four months after Dad was killed. This seperated the "family" because of the short mourning period. Our step father loved Mom. He tolerated us children. The family of my biological father, my Mom and the family of my step father wanted nothing to do with us four "kids". I know that my mother never stopped loving my biological father. She told my step father. Does anyone remember my father William G. Farmer? Thank you for your HONEST and FAITHFUL SERVICE.

I did however, make Corporal (and later SFC) and get the CIB. Since my retirement, I have written an unpublished book relating my personal experiences as I recall them during this period. I would welcome any corroborating experiences relative to dates of moves and activities and would be happy to share all or part of my book. Warning: it is long, about 450 pages.

Comments: My father, Joseph J Klein was in Korea 8/51-5/52. When I ask him about the war, he doesn't seem too eager to share any memories. He trained at Leonard Wood in 1950 but then got food poisoning when they shipped out, so he didn't ship out with the guys he trained with. I'm curious to know what my Dad went through in Korea. Sorry for not providing more info but as I mentioned, he didn't ship out with his guys. I'm not sure what unit he ended up in. He was Army-Infantry.

Comments: Searching for any information on death of PFC Patrick A. White, KIA 10/06/1951 with 14th Inf. Regt. (company presently unknown). White was born in Dundalk, Co. Louth, Ireland, and had emigrated to Chicago area shortly before outbreak of Korean War. His brother CPL Michael A. White was with 1st Cav. Div. in Japan at time of Patrick's death. Word in the Irish-American community was that PFC White died "when he hurled his body to cover a hand grenade that had been thrown by the enemy among his comrades." PFC White's posthumous Purple Heart is dated 19 November 1951.

Comments: The 1/14 Golden Dragons Battalion is proud to be hosting the Regimental Induction ceremony on November 17th at the Hale Koa, HOnolulu, Hawaii. the ceremony will be conducted prior to our formal dining-in and to let our 1/14 guests who are unaware of the glorious history of the 14th Regiment see some of the history, we thought for centerpieces we would collect photos of the men and put them on Infantry blue paper with as many details as we could ascertain about the photos. If any of you visiting here have photos they would like to share, Please email them to fortsnyder@earthlink.net by November 10th with details so we can include them. Thank you for sharing any memories and photos to help preserve the bravery and history of the Regiment

I am assuming this how she got letters to him while he was in Korea. My son is now thirteen, and I want him to know his Grandfather.
