an
armistice was signed.During the battle while we held
the South side of hill Elko we tried 2 or three times
to retake Hill Carson but we were repelled. On the
second assault in the valley between Elko and Carson
under heavy enemy fire our company commander a 1st

and another member of my squad carried him back to

Comments: Late January 1952 moved to Heartbreak Ridge. I was
only there a couple of weeks, at most. I was the
only person picked out of the company and sent to
Japan to rebuild the 1st Cav Division. I had a year
of leadership training and only had one year left to
serve. That's the only reason I can think of that I
was removed. I never received my rank because
Congress had a freeze on promotions my entire
enlistment. I was going to be promoted towards the
end of my enlistment, Jan. 1953. I told my Company
Commander to give it to someone else because I was
leaving and give it to someone staying. In Japan,
with 1st Cav, I made the 5th Cav Regiment football
team. In the fareast command we came within 2 games
of playing for the fareast championship. Would love
to hear from you guys.

He was a WWII vetern who earned the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart. He was also a POW. In Korea he earned the Soldiers Medal in 1953. He stayed in the Army as a career soldier for 20 years.

Unfortunately I lost my Dad in 1963. There is so much I would have like to ask him about Korea......I have been lucky recently and came in contact with two wonderful men who served with him. If anyone else reads this and
knew my Dad, I would love to hear from you. I have some pictures that were taken while he was in Korea.

Thanks, Jannie

Comments: Hello I am looking for any information on my father Leocadio Diaz from Fajardo. I know my father was in the Korean war, that all I know. He died when I was young. So I dont know any information on him. Im trying to build my father's military records. I have my fathers military flag and someday I want to give my children the flag and the history that comes with the flag. If anyone can help me I will apreciate it.

Comments: My Uncle James Mc Mahon, was a Sgt. or SSgt. and squad leader with L Company, 14 Regiment, 25 Lightning Divison. He died several years ago. He never spoke about the war. His wife would like to tell her grand Childern about their grandfather and the awards he may have recieved. She gave me, one ribbon ( Ribbon had two bronze stars attach ) and his CIB. He served in Korea for at least 13 months durning the war. I would like to supprise her with a Medal Case but I really need a lot of help. God Bless and thank you Fred
