He never talked to much about the time he spent in the Korean War. Only after quite a few drinks was he able to tell a few stories. The war profoundly affected his personality and the rest of his life. It also affected mine as Dad was not one to show much emotion and was happiest being by himself fishing. When we first got to LZ Nancy we were in tents and then built our own hootches.We built the CROSS for the Chaplin's tent. We had a E-6 squad leader that left us when we caught sniper fire on one of our mine sweeps. He was gone when we got back, and that's when RED became our squad leader. McMillan for a display I'm putting together at the Airstrip that is named in honor of him. He died of wounds while protecting his men while they were defending an MSR during 11-12 Aug 1950. In mid 80's the 14th Eng constructed a dirt airstrip for C-130 a/c at Camp Roberts and named the field after him. It is now paved and active in supporting UAV programs.
