Comments: Serious Replys only! (No Jokes)

My Grandfather DW Manes died not to long ago after battling alsheimers. I would love to hear any wonderful stories any one can remember. He always said he had lots of buddies. Mostly he talked about how he had to save some of his buddies,& watch helplessly as others died all around him. He told me of his friends that died in his arms. I would be interested in hearing more about how brave he was, or any funny memories you may have. He always remembered what every metal or award he had was for no matter how much he forgot.

Comments: to whom this may concern. my name is Nick Long, I'm a Sgt stationed in damneck va as a Designated Marksman/Martial Arts Intructor. I looking for any one who knew Bill Zeller, he was with the 140th AAA BNSP. He was in korea from 1950-1951. he told me a story about when his unit was doing perimeter security one day around their pause and one of the new guys stepped on a land mine and it wiped out some of the column. he was struck in the face by shrapnel and lost his front teeth, and also took some in the leg. he never was awarded his purple heart and hasn't gotten any assistance from the va for medical bills. if someone out there knows him could you please help me out so maybe he could get what he deserves. he told me that over the years that alot of guys from his old unit had passed away. but if there is any survivors of the 140th AAA BNSP, please contact me so i can try and help him out. People say that crap that Korea is the forgotten war. well to me it's not. You guys wrote the pages of our history, and i give the upmost respect for what you gentleman had to endure there. God Bless America and our Veterans

CAPT. GEORGE, LAST TO LEAVE

ROBERT ERICSON wrote on 2000-12-23 14:27:45.0

Comments: EXCERPT FROM "THE FIRE BALL" VOL.1, NO 2. 12 Feb.1953 After 28 months of service, Capt. Donald B. George, 23 year old Bn. Cmdr., Battery D, 140th AAA Bn, of Santa Barbara, Calif., is undisputably the last original National Guardsman to leave the 40th Inf. Div. One of over 18,000 trained soldiers, to say goodby to the Golden Gate in 1951, he went ashore in Korea on 22 Jan.1952 with the 140th AAA Bn. and on to the ridges of Kumhwa. Scheduled for rotation to the U.S. in July 1952, he extended his enlistment and said goodby to most of his friends. The 40th became representative of every state in the union. "The entire division has rotated home before my eyes", he said, "I have served under two generals and five battalion comanders. That's indicative of a lot of rotation." Capt. George left Korea for another Army assignment on 29 Jan. 1953 Don't know where he is now, or whether he realizes he is so big a part of the history of the 40th Div., but his hobbies were journalism and photography.

Comments:
Hello:

My name is Ron Logan, and I am writing in search of information on my
father during the Korean War. I am uncertain of the exact dates of his
active duty, his military career spanned from 1939 to the 1970's. He was
Army National Guard, U.S. Army, U.S. Marines (1947-1949), and Army
reserves during his career.

He retired a colonel in the 70's. He Died on July 14, 1998 and was
interred at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetary.

I am trying to find anybody who may have known him during the Korean War
or any information as to what the 140th AAA AW (SP) did during the war
years.

I am slowly learning more of his history from searching through old
military papers, and looking at black & white photos from Honshu,
Katakai, Kumwha etc. If you can offer any information on contacting any
surviving member of the 140th AAA AW (SP), it would be most helpful and
appreciated.

I do know that he was definitely in Korea on the following dates:
January 22 to April 30, 1952, since he was awarded the Bronze Start for
service during that time period.
