LOOKING FOR INFO |
| SHAWNA OWENS wrote on July 6, 2011 City and State: HANSCOM AFB MA Unit: NH RECRUITING CO, NEW ENGLAND RECRUITING BN, 1ST R Service or Relationship: FAMILY MEMBER Comments: I'm trying to do some research for my husband. He is an operation Iraqi freedom veteran, and was very close to his pawpaw Owens. Pawpaw Owens is CPL Carl Newby Owens and was enlisted in the US Army from 1950-1953. We did a request for records from the National Personnel Records Center and found out most of the records were destroyed in a fire. What we did get is that he was in the Korean war with the 131st Tran Tank CO. I was just wondering f anyone knew if that was the same as 131st Tran Truck CO or if they were 2 separate units. Also I was wondering if anyone knew what theyre unit patch was or if they had one. My plan is to build a shadow box for my husband and use the casket flag that we have for pawpaw owens. I know the medals he was awarded and his dates of service but not when he was in Korea. I also know he was discharged from fort jackson, south carolina. Any info anyone could share to enlighten me would be wonderful! Thank you so much for taking the time to read this! :) Keywords: 131st tran tank company, Korean war, Owens |

GULF WAR CASUALTIES UPDATE |
| RICK SPYKER wrote on August 20, 2004 City and State: Unit: Service or Relationship: - Comments: Hi, I'm responding to Mr. Robbins' question about the 131st and casualties from the SCUD attack in Dahran, Saudi Arabia. At that time, the 131 had already moved north to Log Base Echo, in the vicinity of Hafr Al Batin and was no near the SCUD impact in Dahran(thank God). However, I can tell you from first-hand knowledge that there was at least one element of the 131 in the Dahran area at the time of the attack. I was a supply specialist with the 131st TC at the time and was on a resupply run down south with along with one of our mechanics. We had holed up for the night at our old battalion (419th) in Dammam, approx. three miles from the fatal impact site. That night, as usual, the SCUDS came in, except this time one actually hit a warehouse full of American soldiers. I remember the impact vividly, as it was much louder than previous SCUD explosions and we could actually smell smoke a few minutes afterwards. It wasn't until the following day that we found out an Army Reserve Unit from PA had been hit and lost about 18 people. Keywords: |
