Comments: My dad, Eugene Dougherty, served in the 116th Engineers Company A from Feb. 1953 to (I think) June 1954. He helped build roads in the Chor Won Valley. The guys in the company called themselves the "dirty dozen." He has lots of photographs he took while he was there and would love to talk to any of his old buddies.

Comments: I just read an article in the April 201 Military Magazine by a Tom Glen who says he was an aide to the above General. He claims the 40Div left Korea in May to July 1952 and never got overseas pay or combat pay.My unit was a NG outfit although I was RA and they got the same pay as I.I left Korea in Nov.52 and I think the 40th was still there. I think they relieved the 5th RCT in the punchbowl area and had a bunch of casualties real soon. anyone wish to comment on this, Am I right or wrong ?I will send you a copy of the story if you wish.

Comments: Might be able to attend a Reunion, wife and I in good health. We travel a bit.

I have a Thankgiving meal menu with all the last names of C co at that time,Also a comendation from Bn Co, will send copies.

It was our Platoon leader a LT. Connors that got killed by Artillary along with the Captain's driver and the captaim was severely wounded. I think his name was Captain Howard

I was in Hq for a while too. Your best bet for records is St. Louis. But it takes quite a while. I have been waiting 6 mos to get ny DD 214 corrected to show iwas even in Korea although I have other papers showing I was

Good Luck

Comments: I am looking for a history of where Co B was, when, and mainly what we were doing. Elswhere in this link I have listed the plces we were at during l951 to Jan 1952.--

I remember when we were there a couple of times that Capt Cunningham remarked he had been informed that we were doing an outstanding job hauling at one time more loads than trucking Co. even thou we had only 16 trucks, must have been in May of 51 when we hauled ammo one way and gravel the other + other work well I sure hope this gets some response

Comments: For anyone interested, I joined Company B almost immediately after the battalion was released from federal service, Sept 1953. The unit was in St Anthony Idaho. My brother Alma (Red) Rausch was an Air Compressor operator in Company B prior to their mobilization and served in the unit through out their time in Korea. For those interested in the history of the battalion you can find it at www.accessidaho.org/index.html or at www2.state.id.us/mil/army/116engineerbattalion.htm I still have many relatives in that area of Idaho and will be happy to furnish any further information if you wish to contact me.

Comments: A super job you are doing for those of us who back then were chosen to be sent to frozen chosen. was assigned to Co "B" 116th Combat Engineer Bn.. from Feb 1952 to Feb 1953. I have made no contact with anyone from the old unit since I left. One of the problems being, I can see faces but can't put a name with the face. Hopefully, with the help of your service, I will be able to make contact with other members of my old unit. I feel I need to belong to your project so, would you please send an application form. Many thanks.
