Keywords: I served as Company Clerk for most of 1953 in a company of the 116th Engineer Combat Battalion in Korea. Unfortunately, I can't recall which company I was in; but do recall that my company commander was from SC -- and I believe his name was Captain Downey. If anyone remembers me, I would love to hear from you.

Built crucial float bridges across Han, Hant'-an, Imjin, and other tidal rivers. Redesignated the 58th Engineer Float Bridge Company, a unit of the 1169th Engineer Combat Group. Comments: I was a member of Company B, 116th Engineer Battalion, Idaho Army National Guard when it was mobilized in August 1950. After service, with Company B and HQ Company in Korea, I rejoined the unit when it was reactivated in Idaho in 1953. I was again mobilized with the unit in 1968 for service in Vietnam. The unit is still in Idaho, but in a different location. It is now in north Idaho rather than its former location in southeastern Idaho. I have quite a bit of historical information on the battalion, that I would be willing to share.

Comments: My father served in Korea with the 116th from Fremont County (Ashton) Idaho - which I believe were sent from Fort Lewis. I would like to know stories or information that anyone could tell me about my dad. Sadly - he passed away 6 years ago but we all had a great life together. I remember several years ago he helped to organize a reunion for the battalion which was held in Ashton and Island Park, Idaho. His name was Donald Gunter - a great guy in my eyes. I am his youngest daughter and spent every waking minute trailing behind my daddy (which I still called him up to the end). It would be nice to be able to provide some stories and info to my two children about their wonderful grandpa - especially my daughter who was only 5 when he died. My son was able to spend a great deal more time with his grandpa but my daughter is so interested in the stories of her papa and recognizes the Korean vets at school each year when Veterans day comes around - right up at the top of the list are her grandpa and uncles. If you served with him, please let me know if you can tell us anything. Thanks
